Report from the 2002 Nokia Mobile Internet conference (NMIC)

So what are the devices that Nokia is bringing to market? 9 new devices that operators can target a broad range of lifestyles were the focus at NMIC. Of particular interest is the fact that with the latest devices, Nokia now has 15 MMS phones launched. Most of the new devices feature high-resolution color displays, MMS support, support for polyphonic ringtones, compatible with optional camera headset, and numerous enhancements enabling a richer user experience. Of particular interest to developers and consumers is the announcement of Nokia's foray into mobile gaming with the announcement of the N-Gage(TM) game deck... read on for product descriptions and specifications. With additional Nokia products running on Series 60 (Symbian OS), the company expects some 10 million+ Symbian devices to be in users hands by the end of 2003, providing application developers with numerous opportunities to create innovative, and rich applications anxiously sought after by handset makers and operators supporting the Symbian OS.
Nokia 6800 - According to Nokia, this phone is perfect those who are "mad about writing"... furthermore, it happends to be "yours truly's personal favorite" and is very high on my Christmas wish-list! Boasting Java and SyncML, the 6800 is suitable for personal and business use. Support for POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP enable email handling, and the built-in notes app. facilitates messages of upto 3000 characters. In the closed position it looks like a regular phone, open it and you'll find a full keyboard (qwerty) enabling must faster and more accurace text entry. Registering high on the "cool meter" is the fadt then when opened, the display actually rotates 90 degrees (MPG demo). Features of the 6800 include:

Nokia 6100 - Small, comfortable, lightweight, this device is targeted at the sophistacted crowd. Main attributes include support for MMS, Tri-band, support for GPRS, and high-res color display. The 6100 weighs in at a measly 76 grams and gets the distinction of one of the smallest devices ever developed by Nokia!

Nokia 5100 - Small, rugged, cool, this device is perfect for the active type or the skateboard groupie in your office! Major features include protection against splash, dust, and bumps; stereo FM radio, Tri-band, even a funly strap/attachment, although I'm curious as to why that option won't be available in US?? Nokia 8910i - This device is the high-end unit for those who appreciate the finer things in life - and don't mind a $800+ price tag. Features a titanium/chrome finish, MMS, Bluetooth, GPRS. The "smooth" slider opening feature by clicking a button on the side is very slick, revealing the keypad and large color display to the user. Additional features:

Nokia 7250 - This device is "fashionable" and boasts an integrated camera. Other claims to fame include support for MMS, Java, and Tri-band functionality. Other features supported by this device include changeable color covers, and four-way scroll with shortcuts. Support for the new music stand will enable hands-free conferencing and rich stereo sound. The device is highly customizable, additional features include:

Tri-band devices Users in the America's anxious for MMS enabled devices are in luck and will have access to the following Tri-band or World phones in the future: 7250, 6800, 6100, 5100

the following devices support Pop-port interface and MMS: 7210, 6610, 5100, 6100, and 6800
