Datawatch's New XML Transformation Tool Now Available

URL(s): www.vortexml.com

LOWELL, Mass., April 10, 2001--Datawatch Corporation (NASDAQ: DWCH), a leading provider of business intelligence/enterprise reporting solutions, data transformation tools and support center software, announced today the availability of VorteXML(TM) Version 1 (V1), the first software tool that enables users to easily convert structured text data into valid XML without programming. VorteXML is available for online purchase immediately at www.vortexml.com. In addition, Datawatch is offering users a free, downloadable 30-day "test drive" version at the same web site.

VorteXML allows users to extract, transform and export valid XML from any recurring structured text data output such as reports, invoices, log files, EDI documents, and HTML using any DTD or XDR schema. In many cases, this output is the sole source of straightforward access to this information. Using structured text data output can eliminate the need to decipher the complex database schema and program logic of existing systems. Users can now quickly generate XML documents without "reinventing" the trusted output from their current systems.

"We're putting the power of XML into the hands of everyone," said John Kitchen, vice president of marketing at Datawatch. "Now companies large and small can spend more time improving their e-business applications and processes without worrying about how to produce the appropriate XML data from their current systems. Most companies haven't previously used structured text data as an XML source because such output typically has a complex structure and data relationships that make it difficult to parse and export into different formats. VorteXML makes it simple."

About VorteXML

Designed to make data transformation as easy as possible, VorteXML utilizes proven report parsing and recognition technology from Datawatch's industry leading report mining Monarch(TM) software to reduce the complexity of transforming text data to valid XML.

VorteXML reads structured text data files downloaded from any mainframe or midrange system, or produced on a PC. These files are commonly known as print files or spool files, but are also referred to as text files (TXT), formatted text files, PRN files and SDF files. VorteXML also reads HTML.

VorteXML uses two distinct modes of operation: input and output. The input mode is responsible for the extraction of data and creation of the hierarchy and relationships in the data. Input mode also provides for the definition of calculated fields to derive new XML content from existing text data files and filters to limit the export to criteria the user establishes. It is also possible to define field types, assisting in alleviating one of the weaknesses of DTDs. The output mode is responsible for mapping of data to the attributes and elements in a DTD or XDR schema and the validation and export of the XML data.

Once defined, these input and output rules may be saved in a profile for use every time the user needs to export the same source type output to XML. VorteXML excels in taking the pain out of repetitive conversion tasks. Uses for VorteXML

  • Generating valid XML documents for B2B and industry exchanges
  • Converting EDI to XML
  • Communicating with vendors, partners, etc. without changing internal business infrastructures and processes
