SAN FRANCISCO (Apr. 10, 2001) - Embedded Systems Conference - Extended
Systems (Nasdaq: XTND), a leading provider of mobile data management and
wireless connectivity solutions, announced today that it has begun shipping
Version 1.2.1 of XTNDAccess Blue SDK, a multi-purpose software development
kit (SDK) for implementing Bluetooth wireless protocols in handheld devices.
XTNDAccess Blue SDK 1.2.1 is based on the recently released Bluetooth
specification version 1.1. The software implements Bluetooth wireless
protocols for embedded devices such as cellular phones, PDAs, digital
cameras, portable office equipment, industrial automation products and more.
XTNDAccess Blue SDK 1.2.1 adds Embedded Linux to its previous operating
system support for Windrivers' VxWorks, the leading embedded market
real-time operating system (RTOS). This enables original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs) using either platform to quickly implement the
technology and bring Bluetooth products to market. Version 1.2.1 also adds
support for Infineon's Bluemoon radio to its previous support for Ericsson,
Silicon Wave, CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio) and Texas Instruments radio
hardware. The CSR module has been enhanced to support BCSP, CSR's
proprietary serial transport.
"The product enhancements we've made to XTNDAccess Blue SDK will improve our
ability to reach more developers and manufacturers in the embedded
marketplace, accelerating Bluetooth implementation in cell phones, PCs and
other consumer electronics devices, where these chips will be used," said
Extended Systems Universal Mobile Connectivity Business Unit Manager Don
Baumgartner.
To date, Extended Systems has licensed its Bluetooth embedded protocol
software to over 75 industry leaders including Palm, 3Com, Motorola,
Hewlett-Packard, Fujitsu, and Mitsubishi for implementation in
next-generation products. For additional XTNDAccess Blue SDK product
information, pricing and availability, call Extended Systems 1-800-235-7576.
About Bluetooth
Bluetooth has unprecedented industry support with more than 2,000 companies
in the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), including all of the leading
players in the telecommunications, PDA and computing industry. It is a
specification for a small-form factor, low-cost radio solution providing
links between PCs, mobile phones, and other portable devices.
Extended Systems was an early adopter and was invited by SIG founder, Intel
to participate in Bluetooth working groups to develop the original
specifications for synchronization, object exchange and file transfer
profiles. XTNDAccess Blue SDK, Extended Systems' software development kit
for handheld devices, has been qualified by the Bluetooth SIG for more user
profiles than any other protocol stack on the market, including General
Access, Serial Port, Object Push, Dial-up Networking, LAN Access, FAX,
Cordless Telephony, Headset, and Intercom. Extended Systems is an associate
member of the SIG, where it plans to help shape the next generation of
Bluetooth technology. www.bluetooth.com.
