T-Online Selects Messagevine’s Instant Messaging Technology
URL(s): www.messagevine.com
New York – April 18, 2001 - MessageVine, the leading provider of carrier
scale wireless and wireline instant messaging (IM) solutions, has announced
the licensing of MessageVine’s IM platform technology, by T-Online, giving
Europe’s largest Internet access provider the ability to provide
presence-based, two-way messaging to its 7.9million subscribers.
Under the terms of the agreement, the scaleable IM server from MessageVine
operates as the core of a comprehensive solution that gives T-Online
completely customised desktop and wireless messaging applications. The
T-Online Messenger (TOM) is designed around the brand and services offered
by T-Online. From PCs and mobile devices, TOM users can create buddy lists,
see whether their buddies are available to chat (online, mobile, do not
disturb, offline etc.), and communicate in real time.
“We believe that enabling presence-based messaging between all
Internet-capable devices – including mobiles and PDAs – increases the value
of the services that T-Online offers to its subscribers,” said Eli Efrat,
CEO of MessageVine. “Our goal is to give wireless operators and ISPs the
most technologically advanced IM solutions, in turn enabling them to offer
their subscribers the best communications services possible.”
Beyond giving users the ability to communicate with each other by desktop
and wireless IM, TOM acts as a launch pad for the T-Online portal. The
branded desktop messenger gives users additional services – such as news
feeds, shopping promotions and direct access to T-Online eMail – encouraging
them to access the T-Online site and make use of other T-Online services
more frequently.
Europe has been less quick to embrace IM than the US. As the largest
Internet access provider in Europe the decision by T-Online to provide an IM
service to its subscribers is extremely significant. In an increasingly
competitive marketplace, services such as IM enable Internet access
providers, multi-access portals, carriers and telcos to differentiate
themselves, increase customer loyalty and develop new revenue streams.
TOM is now available for download at www.t-online.de/service/ and wireless
TOM can be accessed at wap.tom.t-online.de
