Bachmann Software's PrintBoy Documents Lets Palm Handheld Users Produce Office-Like Quality Documents On the Run
SPARTA, N.J., April 18, 2001--
Mobile Professionals Can Now Wirelessly Print High Quality, Fully-formatted Documents
Bachmann Software & Services today introduced an updated version of PrintBoy Documents that translates the rich-text
formatting (RTF) of Blue Nomad's popular WordSmith(TM) word processing application from a Palm Powered(TM) handheld
computer directly to any printer.
With PrintBoy Documents, WordSmith users will now be able to produce hard copies of their documents that include bold,
italics, underlines and multiple font sizes, simply by "beaming" the documents to a printer equipped with an infrared port.
Over the past few months, Bachmann Software has begun adding printing support for many of the most popular "office-type"
applications for handheld computers, such as word processors and spreadsheets. Today's announcement is another step toward
enabling professionals to produce desktop-quality work from their Palm Powered devices. The ability to produce fully-formatted
documents on-the-spot opens up an entirely new realm of portable computing capabilities for a host of industries, such as
logistics, healthcare, sales, utilities, among many others. By allowing mobile professionals to produce professional quality
documents from their Palm(TM) handhelds, PrintBoy is helping users of Palm Powered devices to achieve optimal efficiency
while away from their desk.
PrintBoy Documents is the first stand-alone commercial software product to allow users to print any document converted to
the standard "doc" or WordSmith rich-text formats wirelessly from their handheld devices. Further, PrintBoy Documents
effectively supports printing of text, HTML, Microsoft Word, and PDF files.
"WordSmith has received rave reviews for its RTF capabilities, giving users of Palm Powered devices the ability to produce
final documents directly on their handhelds," stated Alexander Hinds, M.D., president and CEO of Blue Nomad. "By providing
our customers with the ability to print out their fully-formatted documents, Bachmann Software has added even greater value to
our product."
Yesterday, Bachmann Software unveiled its own InfraReady adapter, a portable infrared adapter that can be used to convert
any standard printer to accept "beamed" documents for printing on the spot. By offering Palm handheld users both feature-rich
software and an infrared adapter, Bachmann Software is providing the mobile computing marketplace with the first complete
portable printing system.
"By offering printing support to users of leading Palm OS(R) applications, such as WordSmith, combined with a low-cost and
very compact IR adapter, the mobile workforce will not only be able to produce their documents on the fly, but do so in a
presentable manner that will satisfy customers or their supervisor," stated Dan Reuvers, vice president of Bachmann Software.
PrintBoy Documents allows users of PDA devices to print Word, HTML, PDF, text, and now native RTF file formatted
documents by simply "beaming" it to a printer. Bachmann is offering PrintBoy Documents, which typically retails for $19.99, for
a limited time at $14.99.
