Motorola and Borland to Deliver JBuilder Foundation Software to Developers
URL(s): Borland
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. and SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif.--Jan. 9, 2001--
Motorola (NYSE: MOT) today announced an alliance with Borland(R), which plans
to provide its market-leading JBuilder(TM) 4 Foundation development
environment as part of the Motorola iDEN(R) Subscriber Group's developers'
toolkit. Developers can request a free toolkit on CD-ROM by registering with
the Motorola iDEN Subscriber Group's developer support program at
http://www.motorola.com/idendev .
Borland's JBuilder 4 Foundation is a 100% Pure Java(TM) development
environment that supports the latest Java 2 platform standards and cross-
platform development. JBuilder 4 Foundation is designed to ease and speed the
development process and allow developers to build, compile, debug, and deploy
Java technology-based applications.
This relationship has been established in anticipation of Motorola's Java
2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)) technology-enabled multiple communication
handsets, which are expected to be available in the first half of 2001 through
iDEN network operators, including Nextel Communications and Southern LINC in
the United States and TELUS Mobility/Clearnet in Canada.
Motorola is facilitating the development of applications for this new
handset platform by providing a comprehensive developer support program that
includes development tools, application testing, personalized support, global
marketing, distribution, billing, e-commerce backend processing, and end user
support services.
"The availability of meaningful applications is a key element of the
success of our J2ME technology-enabled computing and communications platform,"
said Bill Werner, corporate vice president of Motorola and general manager of
the company's iDEN Subscriber Group. "We are pleased to offer Borland's
JBuilder 4 Foundation to facilitate the development of these applications."
"Using JBuilder, developers can rapidly deliver a full spectrum of
platform independent solutions, including mission-critical Internet solutions
or networked database and client/server connectivity," said Tony de la Lama,
vice president and general manager of Borland's Java Business Unit.
"JBuilder's open, scalable and standards-based development environment
shortens the time-to-market for Java technology-based applications."
