Terra Lycos Launches 'Lycos 411' With Live Operator-Assisted Web Surfing
URL(s): www.lycos
WALTHAM, Mass., April 23, 2001--Terra Lycos (NASDAQ:TRLY and Madrid Exchange:TRR), the largest global
Internet network, today announced the introduction of Lycos 411, a new human-powered subscription service where Terra Lycos users can get
Internet information by phone at 1.800.www.lycos (1-800-999-5926). By speaking with Lycos 411's personal Internet assistants - live
operators who surf the Web--subscribers are not limited by menus or keywords as with automated voice portals, but can access virtually any
information available on the Internet. With the new service, users on the go can stay connected to the Internet and maintain efficiency with quick
access to the information they need, anywhere there's a phone.
Lycos 411 is fully personalized, with the live Internet assistants delivering customized information, from the performance of a caller's stock
portfolio to the contents of their email inbox. Subscribers can even use Lycos 411 to send emails. Lycos 411 is the newest addition to Lycos
Anywhere, a suite of products that connect Lycos users with the Internet by phone, WAP, SMS and PDA interfaces.
Lycos 411's personal Internet assistants employ a proprietary knowledge base, connected to the Internet, to provide quick responses to
requests for white and yellow pages information, comparison shopping, driving directions and traffic reports, breaking news, stock reports,
sports scores and more. Users can get the answer to most questions immediately, or can request a call back, fax or email response. Professional
research and concierge services are also available on a pay-per-minute charge for the task. Lycos 411 is powered by iNetNow, an information
services company.
New users can enjoy a free trial period, and establish a personalized account either online (http://voice.lycos.com) or with the personal
Internet assistant the first time they call. Subscribers can then use the service on a per-call basis or enroll in a plan that suits their needs, starting at
$4.95 per month.
"Lycos 411 delivers on Terra Lycos's strategy to provide users with Internet services and content, wherever they are, using the device that
most people have with them all the time, their phone," said Nick Werthessen, senior product manager for Lycos Anywhere at Terra Lycos.
"Lycos 411 is the only service that provides customers immediate access to a personal research assistant 24 hours a day."
"The agreement with Terra Lycos illustrates the realization that human touch continues to be important in today's technology-driven society. At
the end of the day, human beings are still the best way to understand complex questions and deliver information quickly, " said Richard Zinman,
vice president, iNetNow. "Lycos has always been on the leading edge in terms of their wireless and personalization strategies. We believe that
by being the first to implement personal Internet assisted browsing, they will further solidify their position as a leader in these areas."
Terra Lycos is the new global Internet network operating in 42 countries in 19 languages, reaching 94 million unique monthly visitors
worldwide. Created by the combination of Terra Networks, S.A. and Lycos, Inc., in October 2000, Terra Lycos is one of the most popular
