Wireless Software Company Offers Developers Tools and Resources to Rapidly Deploy Enterprise
Wireless Applications
KIRKLAND, Wash - April 26, 2001 - Wavelink Corporation, a leading provider
of wireless application development software, network management and mobile
device management solutions for the enterprise, today announced the launch
of its new developer program to promote open and fast wireless application
development and encourage collaboration between wireless developers.
Wavelink's Developer Connection, which is a free membership program,
provides developers with access to instructional resources and tools
designed to speed the creation of wireless applications, including an
extended trial version of Wavelink Studio*. For a program overview and to
register as a Developer Connection member, visit
http://www.wavelink.com/devconnect.
Wavelink Studio allows developers to write wireless applications in any of
the most popular programming languages including Java, Visual Basic and C++.
Due to its flexible nature, applications using Wavelink Studio can operate
over a wide variety of networks, including 802.11b wireless LANs and wide
area networks such as GSM, CDPD and GPRS while running on mobile devices
ranging from feature-rich wireless Palm OS and Windows CE devices to
ruggedized industrial handhelds.
Wavelink Developer Connection is designed to provide developers the support
they need to leverage their existing skill set and code sets to extend
enterprise-level, mission-critical wireless applications. As part of the
program, developers can download code snippets, sample applications and the
latest pre-release versions of Wavelink Studio. Other member benefits
include an interactive online forum, a "tips & tricks" section written by
Wavelink developers with additional contributions from members and an
electronic newsletter.
"With the introduction of Wavelink Developer Connection, we are providing a
single location for developers to access all of the information they need to
build wireless enterprise applications," says Robert Whelan, president and
chief executive officer of Wavelink. "We want to encourage all types of
developers, from Visual Basic to Informix database programmers, to take
advantage of their existing skills and code to write wireless applications
today."
Wavelink Studio's unique server-side architecture and its native
presentation layer approach allow developers to create wireless applications
that will take advantage of a mobile device's full capabilities, including
graphical interface features, supported by any device operating system. In
fact, with Wavelink Studio's client-server model, developers are assured
that the applications written today will continue to function on the mobile
devices of tomorrow without code revisions. This means IT professionals can
reduce their time to market for new wireless deployments, while continuing
to exploit their application investment and existing infrastructure. As a
result, developers can focus their energies on application design rather
than the intricacies of the wireless device and network.
Wavelink Corporation is a leading provider of wireless communications
software for the management of wireless networks, devices and applications,
and a developer of a wireless platform that enables companies to develop and
deploy wireless enterprise applications. Since 1992, Wavelink's innovative

than 5,000 customers to date in over 50 countries. Wavelink supports the
