Oberthur and Visa Achieve Another First
LOS ANGELES, April 26, 2001--Visa cards worldwide has approved Oberthur Card Systems GalactIC
2.1 payment card, a Java(TM)-based, open platform, multi-application smart card that enables secure multi-channel payment, for its
Visa Smart range program.
Based on Open Platform 2.0.1 specifications, the Oberthur GalactIC 2.1 card can host multiple applications and enables
cardholders to pay securely for goods via the home PC, mobile phone, television or at a point-of-sale in a store or at a kiosk.
GalactIC 2.1 incorporates the latest encryption technologies (integrating RSA(a) and PKI(b)) currently available to secure payment
transactions particularly in an online environment.
