WALTHAM, Mass.-April 30, 2001- iConverse, a leading mobile application platform provider, today introduced the iConverse Mobility Platform™, the next generation of mobile application technology that enables companies to extend their business strategy in order to increase customer satisfaction, improve revenue and boost employee productivity.

As part of the release, iConverse introduced the new iConverse Interaction Server™ 2.0 and the iConverse Mobile Studio™ 2.0 to provide extended enterprise and developer support for mobile business initiatives. In addition, iConverse also announced it will provide members of the iConverse Mobile Developer Program a "sneak peek" through an early release of a downloadable Developer's Edition of the iConverse Mobile Studio™. The product will be generally available within 30 days.

The iConverse Mobility Platform addresses a critical problem for businesses today: the need to seamlessly transition essential business functions like workforce mobilization applications and customer relationship management initiatives to the mobile channel. "The widespread adoption of mobile devices provides a unique opportunity for corporations to communicate with customers, partners and employees," said Ron Matros, CEO and president of iConverse. "However, most market solutions require starting from the ground up and carry an expensive, long-term cost of ownership and take a long time to bring to market."

The introduction of the iConverse Mobility Platform solves this problem easily and swiftly by enabling companies to develop and deploy an enterprise-wide mobile initiative that:
  • Provides the richest interactive experience possible for the end-user, regardless of device;
  • Enables companies to establish a competitive differentiation by streamlining business processes that drive revenue and increase worker productivity;
  • Leverages existing investments, such as Web developer skills and implemented enterprise infrastructure, including data sources and business applications;
  • Maintains mobile initiatives with little effort, by providing immediate compatibility with new devices as they become available;
  • Limits the amount of time spent on developing the applications, even by non-experts, freeing up more time to develop the business; and
  • Creates a low cost of ownership due to easier application management and device updates.

    What's new in Version 2.0

    The newest version of the iConverse Mobility Platform extends enterprise integration and developer support to help companies decrease the time to market and long-term maintenance issues often associated with mobile initiatives. The 2.0 versions of the iConverse Mobility Platform provide improved application control and extended enterprise integration to make the move to the mobile channel seamless, fast and non-problematic.

    "After collecting feedback from the iConverse community of customers and partners, we believe that the latest version of the iConverse Mobility Platform meets additional enterprise demands for flexibility and scalability," said Tim Rochford, chief technology officer for iConverse. "iConverse technology is built to integrate with open, industry-standard technologies, including XML, Java, and standard front- and back-end data sources. We strongly believe that companies that use iConverse to extend their business to the mobile channel are able to take advantage of existing IT investments because of the data connectivity features offered in the product and the rapid development process it enables."

    New features of the iConverse Mobility Platform include:
  • Additional iConverse-unique emulators for increased customized development, providing the market's broadest array of protocol, browser and device detailed support;
  • Messaging and alerting capabilities for WAP, SMS, SMTP, SNPP, SMPP and OpenWave including automatic retry mechanisms and carrier polling;
  • Enhanced enterprise data connectivity with industry-standard connectors including WSDL and SOAP, enhanced Java, design-time visualization;
  • One-click deployment and support for staging and production environments;
  • Additional deployment execution environments including IBM's WebSphere™, BEA's WebLogic™, Macromedia's JRun™ and SilverStream Application Server™.

    Starting today, members of the iConverse Mobile Developer Program™ will gain access to a special early release of iConverse Mobile Studio 2.0 Developer Edition at no cost. Members of the program will be able to download the product from a secure Web site, and build enterprise-scale mobile applications for every device on the market. The online developer portal, http://www.iconverse.com/mobiledeveloper/ is an online community of educational resources designed to accelerate the mobile application process. In addition to pre-release availability of iConverse products, members also receive access to chat boards to share ideas and sample code, admission to the iConverse knowledgebase and code library, and online, real-time technical support.

    Membership is available to all qualified developers. To register for the program or request additional information, please visit http://www.iconverse.com/mobiledeveloper/.
