Motorola Upgrades GPRS System, Doubles Access Speed for Developers

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., April 30, 2001--Motorola (NYSE:MOT) announced today that its
Motorola Application Global Network (MAGNET) Center, the company's GPRS development system, will implement new
upgrades that cut in half the time it takes for application developers to access its GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)
network. These upgrades will result in less system delays and more direct access to the network for developers testing
GPRS-based wireless applications.
The MAGNET Center, one of three worldwide, is part of Motorola's MAGNET Program, focused on offering software
developers support by providing access to tools, technologies, devices, side-by-side consulting services, and global resources to
bring certified wireless applications to a market-ready status. In addition, Motorola's Mya(TM) Voice Platform organization
recently installed their Voice Developer Gateway product in the Boynton Beach MAGNET Center to support developer testing
of VoiceXML applications for telephony deployment.
"The MAGNET Center offers a complete package that provides developers the unique opportunity to test, fine-tune and
even market their wireless applications in a fully supported environment," said Yvonne Verse, vice president and director, Data
Solutions Platform Technology and Third Party Development Support, Motorola Internet Software and Content Group (ISCG).
"This upgrade to our GPRS system advances the program by allowing developers to complete their applications faster and with
more accuracy, while keeping pace with technology."
To supplement the MAGNET Program, Motorola's MAGNET Resources can help developers gain heightened visibility and
credibility in the industry through the Motorola Logo Program, the Developer Directory, Network Operator Referrals and, if
eligible, by purchasing space in a Motorola trade show booth. Also, in an ongoing effort to support wireless software
developers and the development of consumer-friendly applications, the MAGNET Center offers the following services:
--
Motorola & Phone.Com Gateway for WAP applications
--
Motorola Messaging Server for FLEX information services
--
Access to pre-ship accepted Motorola products (announced but not shipped to customers)
--
ReFLEX 25 and 50 - 2 way messaging protocols
--
Ericsson Gateway
Future services will include the Nokia Gateway in the second quarter of this year.
The MAGNET Center
The Florida MAGNET Center opened in October of last year, and support systems continue to be put into place. For more
