Every Second a New Registrant Signs Up For ICQ
Averaging More Than 100,000 New Registrants Daily
ICQ ("I Seek You"), the world's most popular online
communications community and international service from
America Online, Inc., today announced that it has reached
100 million registered users worldwide.
The number of registered users has grown rapidly from
zero to 100 million in just over four years, all through viral marketing and word-of-mouth.
ICQ attributes its explosive growth and success to several factors, including its pioneering role in
offering the first Internet instant messaging software, its heritage of offering consumers the most
communications features, and maintaining a unique experience for its users.
Since its acquisition by America Online in 1998, ICQ's user base has grown ten times while the
company has continually expanded and improved its product offering always with the needs and
desires of the ICQ user community at the center.
"What makes ICQ unique is that it has fostered a strong, vast, international community of people
who are enthusiastic about what the Web has to offer - with the key being tuning-in to how people
want to communicate," said Ariel Yarnitsky, co-general manager of ICQ.
"ICQ has done an extraordinary job of delivering innovative services and technologies people
want and packaging them in a fun, easy-to-use environment. We've built a solid product that
appeals to a worldwide audience, and continue to enhance and evolve ICQ's functionalities as our
user base continues to grow."
"ICQ's unprecedented growth attests to how integral it has become to so many people's lives,"
said ICQ founders Sefi Vigiser, Arik Vardi and Yair Goldfinger. "We are thrilled with ICQ's
success and wish to extend our gratitude to all of the people and users who have helped establish
ICQ as the biggest and best online communication community in the world."
