VoiceStream Goes Ape With New Ping Pong Wireless Internet Text Messaging Service
BELLEVUE, Wash., May 21, 2001--
Text Monkeys Debut VoiceStream's New Group of Messaging Products; Including the AOL Instant Messenger (sm) Service and
Motorola's Ultimate Text Messaging Device
VoiceStream Wireless Corp. (Nasdaq:VSTR), today introduced its Ping Pong (sm) Wireless Internet Text Messaging service with
a series of national TV spots featuring two Chimps named Hank and Phil.
The monkeys demonstrate the simplicity of text messaging and the power of silent communication to freely speak your mind
whenever, wherever.
Among Ping Pong's new group of messaging products, monthly customers can send and receive short text messages (up to 140
characters) between phones, as well as to and from any Internet e-mail address. In addition, every Ping Pong customer automatically
has access to the popular AOL Instant Messenger (sm) (AIM) (sm) service on their phone, which provides the ability to send instant
messages between phones, computers and other devices, and includes access to the AIM Buddy List(R) feature, which allows you to
see who's online and ready to receive instant text messages.
VoiceStream is the exclusive nationwide provider of the new Motorola V100, a combined phone and texting device. The V100
features a full keyboard and oversized display for fast and easy text messaging, making it the ultimate texting device. The V100, which
was well received in Europe last year, was named one of the 10 best digital gadgets of 2000 by Campaign magazine. The V100 is
now available at all VoiceStream retail stores and additionally sold through an exclusive relationship with Best Buy.
