Broadbeam Introduces ExpressWeb Wireless Content Server, Extending Axio Wireless Software Platform
URL(s): Broadbeam
NEW YORK--June 25, 2001--MOBILEFOCUS/PC EXPO 2001-- Broadbeam,
provider of a proven wireless
platform that clears an inside track to rapidly create, deploy and manage
mobile applications, today introduced ExpressWeb(TM), a wireless content server that enables mobile Web
application
developers to quickly extend enterprise and Internet applications to a wide variety of browser-based
devices, such as
phones and PDAs. Formerly code-named "Cheetah," ExpressWeb is a key component of Broadbeam's
third-generation
Axio(TM) wireless software platform, which integrates seamlessly with an enterprise's existing IT
infrastructure, speeding
development and deployment enabling customers to significantly improve worker productivity, increase
customer
satisfaction and fully leverage their enterprise data - capturing a clear ROI.
ExpressWeb is comprised of two components - ExpressWeb Server, which dynamically renders a wide
array of content
sources to a broad range of browser-based devices and ExpressWeb Studio, an enterprise-class visual
design tool,
which provides a simple but powerful way to rapidly develop mobile Web applications. Using ExpressWeb
Studio,
companies can build wireless applications themselves instead of relying on third parties, providing a fast
and cost
effective development alternative. ExpressWeb integrates tightly with the other components of the Axio
platform, including
Broadbeam's ExpressQ(TM) wireless messaging server, to provide seamless deployment of Web and
enterprise
applications across thin (browser) and intelligent clients such as PDAs and other mobile computing
devices.
Broadbeam's Axio wireless software platform is comprised of ExpressQ, ExpressWeb, application
connectors and
application development tools. Axio supports three modes of wireless communication: real-time,
interactive
communication or browsing; online/offline messaging using store-and-forward message queuing; and
notifications.
"We have channeled the expertise and experience from many successful deployments worldwide into our
proven
wireless platform - today the de facto platform of choice for over 500 businesses," said Broadbeam
Chairman and CEO
Boris Fridman. "ExpressWeb expands our Axio wireless platform and allows our customers to deliver
business-critical
information to both thin and intelligent clients. We are providing the most comprehensive platform
available while
removing the technological, cost and time barriers faced by companies looking to mobilize their
workforces."
Broadbeam's ExpressWeb Server and ExpressWeb Studio
Broadbeam's ExpressWeb uses industry-standard XML and Java-based approaches to enable seamless
backend
integration with a wide array of content sources. This approach makes it easier and more cost effective to
maintain
applications by eliminating the need to maintain separate Web content. ExpressWeb Server enables access
to Web
content and application data in ExpressQ from browser-based devices. Broadbeam's ExpressWeb Studio
provides
developers with an easy way to develop applications across multiple devices or class of devices, thereby
reducing the
development cycle for mobile Web applications. ExpressWeb Studio is a visual design tool that provides a
drag-and-drop
design interface and simple one-click application generation. Out-of-the-box templates for approximately
150 devices and
built in visual simulators provide developers with the ability to customize or enhance applications for either
a specific
device or an entire class of devices.
"Before investing time and resources, enterprises should look for an integrated wireless platform, which
supports
multiple thin or intelligent clients, without sacrificing quality of service, reliability or security," said
Stephen Drake,
Research Manager with IDC's Wireless and Mobile Enterprise Access Service. "Solutions such as these,
begin to
address those critical enterprise requirements for mobilization projects."
Product Demonstration and Availability
ExpressWeb will be demonstrated at MobileFocus 2001 on June 25, 2001 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. For those
who will be
attending PC Expo, the demonstration will be held in the Sierra Wireless booth # 4262. For those interested
in a
demonstration, but not attending the aforementioned events, please contact Tim Sweeney at
