Sydney, 25 JUNE 2001 -- Intelematics Australia has announced that its range of advanced telematics
services has been selected by Holden Ltd. The services will be introduced
to Holden's customers as Holden Assist(tm) from June-2001 and will provide
a range of personal safety, vehicle security and information features.
The arrangement will make Holden the first Australian vehicle manufacturer
to offer advanced telematics services to motorists as a standard fit or
option. Initial services will be made available to new buyers of Holden's
Statesman International from June-2001.
Intelematics Australia will progressively introduce Holden Assist customers
to crash detection, emergency alert, theft detection, satellite-based
tracking, remote door unlocking, engine immobilisation, roadside assista
nce, diagnostics monitoring, security and personal safety services.
The services will be accessed either through the operation of a button pad
located on the in-vehicle rear vision mirror or via a signal sent from an
in-vehicle sensor following an 'event' such as airbag deployment, break-in
or low battery warning.
Holden Ltd is one of Australia's leading manufacturers and distributors of
motor vehicles, engines, components and parts, and is owned by US-based,
General Motors Corporation. In 2000, Holden produced 133, 151 vehicles and
390,000 engines, gaining an Australian market share, for the passenger
vehicle sector of 22.1 per cent.
"Telematics services offer vehicle manufacturers, like Holden, much better
opportunities to build, enhance and maintain strategic relationships with
their customers," said Mr Adam Game, CEO of Intelematics Australia. "At
the same time, telematics services enhance the safety, convenience and
security of vehicles, enabling drivers to be better informed and further
enjoy their motoring experiences."
"Holden's selection of services from Intelematics Australia cements our
position as the leader in this market and recognises that telematics
services will soon play a very significant role in customer purchasing
decisions for new motor vehicles."
Intelematics Australia will also seek to deliver a range of additional
services to Holden customers in late 2001 that will focus on providing
hands-free, voice-activated access to information and content features
including mobile commerce, live concierge, mobile media and entertainment.
"The feedback we have received from Holden about telematics is that
advanced safety and security features, coupled with mobile information and
media services, will soon be a key factor deciding customer buying
patterns. And, as a result, will play a crucial role in the ongoing design
and manufacture of Australian passenger vehicles," said Mr Rob Carter,
Chairman of Intelematics Australia and Chief Executive of NRMA Member
Services
