Bell Mobility Investments Announces a $300,000 Funding in Maptuit Corporation's Technology

MONTREAL, July 5 - Bell Canada announced today that Bell Mobility
Investments (BMI), as part of it's R&D program, is making a $300,000
investment in Maptuit Corporation, a supplier of eGeo services - Internet-
based services centered on the road network.
Maptuit, working in partnership with BMI, will develop new location-based
technology to support additional functionality, devices and services. New
functionality will provide consumers with location-based friend-finders,
location sharing, push-based real-time updates, and personalized content.
Maptuit's technology will also be extended to support the richer interface
capabilities of next generation handsets being brought to market. In addition,
Maptuit's technology will be enhanced to support new network capabilities
including support for packet-based 'always on' connectivity and automated
location-capture.
Based upon an increasingly global database of the road network, Maptuit's
eGeo services include the ability to look up valid addresses (geocode), to
determine addresses given coordinates (reverse geocode), to render maps and
calculate routes as well as determining and rank points of interest within a
given proximity based on the projected travel time. eGeo services can be
delivered over wireline Internet, through telephony (speech-based)
applications, and via a variety of wireless devices.
"The eGeo services from Maptuit allow us to go deeper in the future of
location-based services and may provide an effective way to get location-based
information to our mobile users," said Ted Maksimowski, President & CEO of
Bell Mobility Investments.
"We applaud this program initiative and the support it provides wireless
innovators," said Bill Tapscott, Maptuit's Managing Director. "This support
will assist Maptuit in its drive to be a major player in the rapidly expanding
location-based services marketplace. Being chosen from among a number of first-
class companies demonstrates the potential of our location-based technology
while highlighting our ongoing focus on best-of-breed research and
development."
