New Version of PocketDBA Installs In Minutes, Includes Improved Functionality

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2001-- PocketDBA Systems, a pioneer and leader in the wireless database management industry, unveiled the next version of their revolutionary software product at CA World 2001 in Orlando. PocketDBA is the first-ever software product that empowers database administrators (DBAs) to remotely monitor, manage and troubleshoot Oracle databases using wireless handheld devices. The newest release, PocketDBA Version 1.2, now installs in only minutes once an organization's firewall is securely configured. PocketDBA Version 1.2 also provides new screens that enable DBAs to conduct even more daily tasks while away from the office.

"This is the dawn of a new age for database administrators," said Ari Kaplan, CEO of PocketDBA Systems and creator of the company's flagship product. "For the first time in the history of databases, administrators have a powerful, easy-to-install software solution that lets them respond to database issues on-the-spot from virtually anywhere in the world."

The PocketDBA software helps to ensure that the reins of mission-critical databases are controlled at all times -- even when DBAs are away from the office. The product allows DBAs to work "live" in the database -- so all management is done in real-time. PocketDBA is the only product that goes beyond mere data browsing and actually enables administrators to control the database itself, the core of a business. The product is a turnkey solution that works with Oracle databases without the need for customization or consulting services.

The software runs on wireless Palm OS devices, including the Palm V and Vx, the Palm VII and VIIx, the Handspring Visor Platinum and Handspring Visor Prism and the QCP 6035 Smartphone by Kyocera. The product contains hundreds of screens organized into four modules.

Pocket Command Center(TM) - This all-purpose interface that allows a user to issue any SQL command or run any database query. The Pocket Command Center intelligently displays results of queries for easy viewing on handhelds.

Pocket Object Viewer(TM) - Browse all database objects by schema or object type and monitor all objects in the database. With PocketDBA Version 1.2, users can examine all invalid objects and revalidate them.

Pocket Performance Viewer(TM) - Proactively view and analyze vital performance issues of the database, including memory usage, disk usage and performance statistics. Identify problematic areas of the database before they impact database productivity. With PocketDBA Version 1.2, users can view and resolve all locking issues.

Pocket User Manager (TM)- See who is connected to the database, add or remove users, and quickly learn about the locks, memory, rollback segments, sorts and other information on those connected sessions. With PocketDBA Version 1.2, a user can view all active SQL commands issued by all users of the database.

The company's proprietary security measures help protect corporate information from third-party interception. Many layers of security are used at every stage of data transmission, including SSL, usernames and passwords. Also, no database information ever resides in the device, so lost or stolen handhelds are not a security issue. With the new release, DBAs can now easily adjust the automatic log-out time to fit their comfort level.

PocketDBA Version 1.2 Installs In Minutes

PocketDBA Version 1.2 installs in minutes because all tools and documentation needed to run the product are conveniently bundled together and installed in one central location. No repositories and no intelligent agents need to be installed on individual databases as they do in other enterprise software installations.

The installation process also gives DBAs the power to configure the product to meet their organization's needs. For example, the PocketDBA allows users to connect to multiple databases with one handheld console by using a pull-down menu at the top of the screen. With the new release, DBAs can easily control which databases are monitored, increase the number of databases monitored or extend the life of the license.

PocketDBA Pricing, Demo and Trial

The PocketDBA Version 1.2 software is priced per database instance, with volume discounts provided for enterprise-wide adoption. A live, online demonstration of PocketDBA is available at www.pocketdba.com. In addition, users can evaluate PocketDBA by downloading a trial version of the software product on to their own wireless Palm OS handheld device. PocketDBA Systems is a pioneer and leader in the wireless database monitoring and managment industry. With the PocketDBA software, a company's database administrators are able to conduct their work - from daily routines to critical procedures - outside of the office via wireless handhelds. The company was founded in June, 2000 by Ari Kaplan, one of the world's leading authorities and authors in the Oracle database field. The 20-person company is based in Chicago. The company's future plans include developing new products based on the PocketDBA wireless platform. These products will enable organizations to wirelessly manage their entire information technology infrastructure from a single wireless interface.
