Dell'Oro Group Launches a New Research Program Tracking the Wireless Infrastructure Market
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2001--Dell'Oro Group launched a new report tracking the Wireless Infrastructure Market that will focus on three areas: Wireless LANs -- 802.11b, Broadband Fixed Wireless and Mobility Infrastructure. "Wireless technologies are one of the largest and most dynamic segments of the network infrastructure market," says Greg Collins, a director at Dell'Oro Group. "Offering data on both vendors and markets, these reports will provide an unprecedented level of detail in a quarterly analysis of the Wireless Infrastructure."
The Wireless LAN -- 802.11b segment covers Access Points/Bridges, Broadband Gateways, and Network Interface Cards (NICs) & Devices.
Broadband Fixed Wireless focuses on Point-to-Multipoint Base Stations, and Point-to-Multipoint Client/Network Termination Devices (CPE).
Mobility Infrastructure currently includes GSM (900/1800/1900), CDMA (IS.95), and TDMA (IS.136). Equipment tracked includes Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), macro, micro, and pico Base Station Controllers (BSC), and Mobile Switching Centers (MSC). In addition to tracking revenues, unit shipments, and average selling prices of each of these types of equipment, the report includes the transceiver or radio capacity of each class of base station equipment (BTS).
"One of the interesting aspects of about tracking each of these products and technologies under a single program is to analyze and measure the potential for each of these seemingly disparate product families to influence each other. For instance, wireless LANs deployed in public hot-spots can potentially supplant parts of 2.5G and 3G mobility infrastructure deployments," says Collins.
