Bridgewater Systems and Ericsson Sign Global OEM Agreement
KANATA, Ontario, July 23, 2001 - Bridgewater Systems, a provider of Internet
access management software, today announced it has signed an OEM agreement
with Ericsson. Under the deal, Ericsson will market, sell and distribute
Bridgewater's WideSpanÔ access management solution worldwide for use in
Ericsson's Code-Division Multiple Access (CDMA) packet core network solution.
Ericsson's cdma2000™ Packet Core Network (PCN) solution is a key component
in the mobile Internet evolution and migration to third generation (3G)
networks. The PCN enables direct access to IP-service networks - helping
operators capitalize on new revenue streams for Internet, corporate intranet,
multimedia and other data services.
"Bridgewater and Ericsson share the same goal - to deliver open, standards-base
d solutions that unleash the real potential of the mobile Internet services
business," said Joe Barbera, senior vice president of global sales, Bridgewater
Systems. "We are very excited that a company with the reputation and
reach of Ericsson has selected Bridgewater Systems to actively participate
in creating a strong position in the CDMA market."
For CDMA service providers, this solution offers a competitive edge to
seamlessly deliver a wide variety of IP-based services and applications
for immediate revenue realization. Bridgewater Systems' WideSpan solution
will be used for its Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA),
profiling and usage-based accounting capabilities. With its expertise
in AAA, WideSpan will provide a vital piece in the evolution of wireless
networks.
"WideSpan provides wireless operators with a highly scalable, resilient
and centralized platform to manage access to services, as well as enable
flexible billing and accounting for mobile data services," said Barbera.
"With its ability to provide seamless support as carriers migrate from
2G to 3G environments, WideSpan gives operators the confidence that customers
have the highest quality of service at all times, regardless of the underlying
technology."
cdmaOne is one of the fastest growing wireless technologies in the world,
currently serving more than 57 million subscribers. Ericsson's PCN solution,
with Bridgewater's WideSpan software, is currently available to service
providers, and is undergoing trials with leading wireless operators around
the world.
