URL(s): Corbis  GignoSystem Japan
SEATTLE & TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 25, 2001-- Corbis(R) (www.corbis.com)-- the world's leading digital media company-- and GignoSystem Japan, Inc.(R)
(www.gignosystem.com) today announced the launch of a new jointly developed web site offering Japanese mobile phone users
the ability to customize their phones with an exclusive selection of Corbis images.
These images are available via NTT DoCoMo's wireless i-mode service, which currently has approximately 25 million
subscribers.
The new site called "Corbis' Gensen Sozai-shu" (or "Corbis' Select Collection") was produced by GignoSystem and displays
the Corbis brand. The new site exclusively features a wide range of Corbis images, grouped into galleries across categories
including sports, fine art, nature, world travel, flowers, animals, humor, healing, seasons, animations and more. For Y300 per
month (about $2.50 U.S.), Japanese customers with the i-mode service can access the site, and can search for and download
images directly to their phones for use as screensavers, image puzzles or mobile greeting cards, which they can send to friends
along with text messages. Other features include special monthly selections, previews and a "my selections" area.
"Corbis is proud and excited about our partnership with GignoSystem," said Corbis president Leslie Hughes. "Not only does
this partnership give Corbis specific access to a major segment of the image market in Japan, it also provides a concrete
example of Corbis' commitment to expanding the ways that digital images can be accessed and enjoyed by a broader audience."
"Offering access to such a large selection of high quality Corbis images is significant for customers because it gives them the
chance to customize their phones no matter what their interests are," said Keiko Iida, President of GignoSystem, Japan.
The new web site augments an existing partnership between Corbis and GignoSystem for the wireless market in Japan. Since
April 2001, Corbis' news division has provided current news images for GignoSystem's Machiukegamen Melody ("Screen Display
& Melody") web site via DoCoMo's i-mode service. This site enables subscribers to access images via their mobile phones.
This partnership with GignoSystem Japan is the second major move by Corbis in Japan in less than a month. Three weeks
ago, Corbis announced the formation of Corbis Japan, Inc. with new partner the amana corporation, to expand its presence in the
large Japanese creative professional marketplace.
