CellPoint Launches Next Phase of Its Location Developers' Zone
URL(s): Cellpoint Location Developer Zone
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 1, 2001--Following a successful 'beta' program, CellPoint Inc. (Nasdaq:CLPT), a
global provider of mobile location technology and services, has launched the next phase of its Location Developers' Zone
(LDZ). Designed for developers of products, services and applications, as well as operators and content providers, the
LDZ contains a wealth of unique information specific to location application developers' business needs.
The LDZ has been set up by CellPoint to facilitate third-party development of applications and services targeted to
CellPoint's mobile location platforms. The LDZ is created to give developers and content providers easy access to
relevant information and services, enabling them to get started with product integration in a quick and efficient manner.
Members get dedicated access to a range of valuable information including:
--
access to CellPoint's unique simulator - a software resource that enables live testing of location applications in a
simulated GSM network
--
the ability to test location applications in a live GSM network in Sweden
--
access to CellPoint's open APIs
--
valuable 'freeware', including a WAP gateway
--
advanced technical information
--
regular news updates
"Our rationale for launching the LDZ is threefold," says Lars Persson, CEO of CellPoint Systems. "Firstly, CellPoint
recognizes that location developers currently have few resources to call upon when designing applications - with the LDZ,
they now have a rich source of technical information that will help 'kick-start' their efforts in this area. Secondly, by
implementing a 'one-to-many' solution for distributing our market-leading technical resources, the greatest number of
existing and future location developers now have access to tools that will help proliferate location solutions in the
marketplace. Finally, if we look at the location-based services industry as a whole, there is a scarcity of available
educational material - after all, this is a very new market - and therefore CellPoint has a responsibility for knowledge
transfer to the marketplace, and developers in particular."
Persson concludes, "Our beta testers have been very positive in their feedback on the LDZ and on the basis of this
response we expect to see hundreds more developers and other interested parties registering with the LDZ over the
coming months."
