BrightCom and Xilinx Team Up to Develop Bluetooth Solutions

SAN DIEGO and SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 7, 2001-- BrightCom(TM) Technologies and Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq:XLNX) today announced a collaboration to jointly develop Bluetooth(TM) solutions based on BrightCom's Bluetooth Application Processors and Xilinx(R) low-cost Spartan(R) Series FPGAs (field programmable gate arrays).

This relationship will allow OEMs to rapidly deliver built-to-order, adaptable and flexible Bluetooth solutions.

BrightCom's Bluetooth Application Processors and integrated chip and software platforms coupled with Xilinx FPGAs will accelerate time-to-market and allow design engineers to avoid the risks associated with building products in the constantly evolving Bluetooth market.

As Bluetooth becomes the de facto wireless personal area-networking standard, the deployment of Bluetooth requires protocol translation and interface to multiple bus standards, such as PCI, PCI-X, PCMCIA, Cardbus, SCSI, IEEE1394, Ethernet or proprietary standards.

"By teaming with BrightCom, we will enable OEMs to rapidly bring high volume Bluetooth solutions to market," said Robert Bielby, senior director of strategic applications, Xilinx. "Together we will provide the flexibility needed to bridge Bluetooth to the various industry standards, in order to meet changing market needs in a timely and cost effective manner."

BrightCom Application Processors account for the fact that real-life applications have different power, baseband, RF performance and memory requirements, depending on the types of devices that will be wirelessly networked.

"Xilinx opens the door for BrightCom's Application Processors to be quickly integrated into a variety of new devices," said Yuval Ben Ze'ev, CEO and president, BrightCom. "Through our collaboration with Xilinx, BrightCom will be able to provide OEMs with Bluetooth solution-on-chip platforms that can be optimized for specific wireless applications and connected to virtually any interface."

BrightCom Application Processors feature an embedded architecture comprised of a Bluetooth baseband core, complete software protocol stack, profiles and developer-friendly API, as well as hardware interfaces for specific applications.

BrightCom is the pioneer of Bluetooth Application Processors -- integrated chip and software platforms that help customers quickly introduce differentiated products. BrightCom introduced the Bluetooth industry's first 100 MIPS processor, which allows complex Bluetooth applications to be embedded on-chip, eliminating the need for a host processor. Founded in 1998, BrightCom is based in Tel Aviv, Israel, with a U.S. subsidiary in San Diego. Additional information can be found at www.brightcom.com.

Xilinx is the leading supplier of complete programmable logic solutions, including advanced integrated circuits, software design tools, predefined system functions delivered as intellectual property cores, and unparalleled field engineering support. Founded in 1984 and headquartered in San Jose, Xilinx invented the field programmable gate array (FPGA) and fulfills more than half of the world demand for these devices today. Xilinx solutions enable customers to reduce significantly the time required to develop products for the computer, peripheral, telecommunications, networking, industrial control, instrumentation, aerospace, defense, and consumer markets.
