SAN DIEGO, Aug. 15, 2001--PacketVideo Corp., the recognized leader in software for the delivery of rich media over today's wireless networks, today announced it has successfully conducted an end-to-end wireless multimedia trial over Guangdong Mobile Communications Corporation (GMCC)'s General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network.

GMCC is China Mobile's largest provincial operator serving over 14 million subscribers.

In China, and many other leading mobile markets in the world, the current Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) networks are quickly being upgraded to support the GPRS technology. The higher data transmission rates of GPRS offer mobile users enhanced services with multimedia capabilities.

"China's phenomenal growth rate and huge base of over 100 million mobile subscribers presents enormous opportunity for our advanced wireless services," said Greg Park, general manager of PacketVideo Asia/Pacific. "We look forward to enabling GMCC to deliver mobile multimedia services to Chinese consumers and corporate users on the go."

The trial was based on PVPlatform(TM) 2.0, an end-to-end system that enables the delivery, management and viewing of rich media over wireless networks. PVPlatform is capable of delivering high quality audio, video, rich graphics, and animation at low transmission rates over error prone mobile environments for applications such as access to movie theater schedules and previews, weather and traffic reports, and home or business video surveillance.
