FREMONT, Calif., Aug. 23, 2001-- Imaging company to work with Nokia, Intel, Ericsson, China Mobile and others to set next-generation mobile Internet application standards

ArcSoft Inc., a leading provider of digital imaging applications and Internet networks to global businesses, today announced that it has been selected as a member of the board of directors for the China Mobile Internet Application Protocol Special Group, the wireless standards committee of China, approved by the Information Industry Bureau of China. ArcSoft is one of only 21 companies on the board, including wireless industry leaders such as Ericsson, Nokia, Seimens, Intel, Motorola, China Unicom and China Mobile. The companies will be jointly responsible for setting the wireless Internet standards for China. ArcSoft's Chief Architect of Mobile/Internet Imaging Solutions, Wenbin Zhang, will chair the "Mobile Internet Applications in China" subcommittee.

"The wireless Internet represents the next frontier for digital imaging and visual communication. China and other Pacific Rim countries are a driving force in this coming exploration," said Michael Deng, CEO of ArcSoft. "ArcSoft's customers are already aggressively moving into the mobile market, and our involvement in the China Mobile Internet Application Protocol Special Group leaves us well positioned to support them with standards-based imaging applications for virtually any wireless platform."

ArcSoft is currently developing a wireless version of its advanced imaging networks platform. This platform will provide support for WML, CHTML, HTML and XHTML formats and enable users to view, edit and share photos/files on most wireless devices. The company is also porting its desktop image applications to mobile platforms, including Palm, PocketPC, Symbian and J2ME. Those applications will be tightly integrated with ArcSoft's wireless Internet platform. The resulting applications will leverage server-side processing power and significantly increase wireless device capability.

In addition, ArcSoft will integrate adaptive transcoding technology that will enable ArcSoft software to automatically detect different device types and generate optimized content based on individual characteristics. Wireless device types currently supported include WAP phones, i-Mode phones, Microsoft Stinger Phones and PDAs (Palm and PocketPC), as well as WebTV and similar Internet appliances.
