Verizon Wireless Utilizes Spirent's Solutions to Test Next Generation Device Quality
URL(s): www.verizonwireless.com
BEDMINSTER, N.J. & EATONTOWN, N.J., Aug. 24, 2001--Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless carrier, has
purchased the Air Access C2K CDMA Network Emulator product and the C2K-ATS Automatic Test System product, from Spirent
Communications(TM), a wholly owned business group of Spirent plc (SPM:NYSE).
Verizon Wireless has selected both of these new products to further its efforts in providing customers with the highest quality and most reliable Third
Generation (3G) devices. Terms of the purchase are undisclosed.
AirAccess C2K and C2K-ATS are innovative performance analysis solutions that aid 1XRTT mobile device manufacturers and service providers in
the development and testing of reliable products and services.
"All the wireless phones we sell pass rigorous lab and field-testing to make certain that each phone functions well and gives customers the quality
communications experience Verizon Wireless' network was built to deliver," said Lou LaMedica, Executive Director - CPE Evaluation and
Development for Verizon Wireless. "The Spirent products will help us qualify a new device's performance quality before we offer it to our customers."
"The timely delivery of wireless test equipment is essential for the successful deployment of 1XRTT networks and services," states Rob Van Brunt,
Director of Product Marketing for Spirent Communications, TAS Division. "Spirent Communications' solutions are the answer to mobile device
manufacturers' and service providers' requests for an integrated 1XRTT physical layer and protocol layer test solution. We are pleased to be working
with Verizon Wireless to advance the roll-out of 1XRTT voice and data service."
AirAccess C2K combines Windows-based application software with powerful instruments to provide complete emulation of a multi-cell
IS-95/1XRTT network, with emulation of up to six sectors. Dynamic state machine emulation and an intuitive GUI allow for interactive mobile device
testing without requiring the generation of complex programs or scripts.
A real-time protocol processing engine meets the most complicated testing requirements, including multi-frequency handoff scenarios and high-speed
packet data applications. A flexible architecture allows customers to interface with their unit under test at baseband and RF.
C2K-ATS provides a complete test bed for the evaluation of CDMA mobile performance to the IS-98D and CDG Stage 2 standards. C2K-ATS
combines Windows-based application software with powerful instruments to enable automated, closed-loop device testing. This system is equipped with
pre-defined suites for industry standard tests defined by TIA, 3GPP2, CDG, and ARIB.
These products reduce time to market and conserve valuable engineering resources by providing a turn-key solution for mobile performance analysis.
Potential design flaws can be caught earlier in the development cycle enabling more trouble-free deployment.
