DEMOmobile Conference, La Jolla, (September 6, 2001) – WideRay, developers of an integrated hardware and software mobile caching platform for delivering on-location, broadband data services to mobile devices, today announced that it is unveiling the Jack M2 mobile caching server. WideRay is demonstrating personalized content publishing and real-time transactions over a 2-way nationwide wireless network for the first time at DEMOmobile 2001.
"WideRay is fulfilling the promise of useful contextual, on-location data services and the distinct advantage of a mobile caching architecture over a monolithic cellular architecture for these kinds of applications. This puts real power in the hands of the enterprise and away from the carriers," said Jim Forbes, producer of DEMOmobile.
WideRay creates the Jack, a mobile caching server that beams on-location content and applications to handheld devices. The company has attracted customers and partners including Land Rover, Mercedes, Palm Computing, Sony, San Francisco Giants, Stanford University, Worldcom as well as a variety of tradeshows and conferences. WideRay’s technology has been successfully deployed for both consumer-facing CRM and marketing applications, as well as enterprise-facing workforce applications.
"We are enabling the next level of high-bandwidth on-location mobile data services built on our 2-way wireless caching platform," said Saul Kato, CEO of WideRay. "For the consumer this means instant access to personalized rich media, live data feeds, real-time inventory, promotion and ticket redemption, and the ability to perform transactions with an ordinary handheld device. For the enterprise this means live 2-way syncing capability, transactional applications, lead retrieval, and remote site data collection. We are offering a level of performance, low cost, and utility not achievable with the traditional cellular approach."
On stage during the early morning session on Friday at DEMOmobile, Saul Kato demonstrates:
How an enterprise can publish data out to Jacks in remote locations and collect information through a simple web interface.
How end users can interact with a Jack over infrared to receive high-bandwidth personalized content and perform transactions.
How WideRay’s Remote Application Server (RAS) software enables an enterprise to deploy rich data services and applications in a tiny footprint (<80kb).
How WideRay’s Extended-Range Multicast Beaming (EMB) protocol enables the use of infrared as an effective multi-user communications channel.
