iConverse Provides Sneak Peek of "Maxwell" On-stage At Demomobile, Debuting the Industry's First Adaptive Offline Productivity Technology

LA JOLLA, Calif., Sept. 6, 2001-- iConverse, a leading mobile application platform provider, today debuted its new technology, codenamed "Maxwell," that will enable enterprise application users to continue to perform job functions while in any mode of operation -- connected, disconnected or roaming in and out of network coverage -- increasing enterprise workforce productivity. iConverse provided the first glimpse of its newest technology in an on-stage demo at the exclusive, invite-only DEMOmobile(TM) conference in La Jolla, Calif. iConverse also introduced the latest version of its iConverse Mobility Platform(TM) , designed to help Global 2000 enterprises ensure maximum productivity and service by easily bridging business to mobile employees, partners and customers. New release features include enhanced messaging/alerting capabilities and increased support for international applications, including those using double-byte languages like Chinese, Korean and Japanese.

iConverse's Maxwell solves a critical problem for enterprises today: The need to access full-function applications while in the field, regardless of network availability. "Until now, enterprises could only deploy wireless or on-client applications to increase the productivity of the mobile workforce. But due to the absence of universal network coverage, enterprises could not bridge the wireless and offline world to enable total application functionality in any mode of operation," said Tim Rochford, chief technology officer for iConverse. "Maxwell aims to solve this problem by enabling the seamless and intelligent exchange of information between server-side and client-side synching and application technology."

Maxwell comprises an intelligent data exchange framework with an on-device Java application architecture that enables a full-function enterprise application to reside on the mobile device. Maxwell also enables the end-user to interact, cache and synch data-driven transactions to the server-side network. iConverse plans to release its patent-pending intelligent offline productivity technology to the market in the fourth quarter of 2001.

"With Maxwell, iConverse solves one of the key challenges of mobile business -- meeting the needs of users who work at times connected, at other times unconnected and or out of range of the network," said Jim Forbes, producer of DEMOmobile 2001. "iConverse's innovation in the development of wireless applications is one of the reasons we selected this company as a participant in DEMOmobile 2001."

What's new in version 2.1

The iConverse Mobility Platform is an open, standards-based mobile application platform that enables companies to quickly put enterprise applications in the hands of mobile users while leveraging existing enterprise information assets and ensuring a seamless user experience. Its latest version is designed to help Global 2000 enterprises enhance global corporate communication through improved messaging support, rapid application development and integration for international data sources.

"iConverse has repeatedly come to market with solid technology that anticipates the next enterprise mobile technology need," said Joe Choti, chief technology officer for iConverse customer Major League Baseball Advanced Media. "The ability to leverage local resources for global deployments and the seamless application integration of alerts keeps the long-term cost of ownership for strategic mobile initiatives low."

Today's release makes the iConverse Mobility Platform the only mobile application platform on the market that enables companies to:

--Experience short ramp-up times for global deployments through the simple transition of one-language applications to other languages;

--Reach more mobile users by being device, language, carrier and protocol agnostic by creating one application framework that can support all;

--Keep cost of maintenance and deployment low over the long term by enabling local building, testing and maintenance; and

--Improve communication within distinct lines-of-business by integrating secure, reliable and two-way global messaging that businesses can track.

Currently, the iConverse Mobility Platform comprises the following components:

--iConverse Mobile Studio 2.1, an award-winning drag and drop development environment for creating and maintaining mobile business applications in any language and for every mobile device;

--iConverse Interaction Server 2.1, a reliable, flexible and highly functional server-based software on which to deploy and maintain all mobile business applications, compatible with all market-leading J2EE application servers; and

--iConverse Messaging Server 2.1, a two-way wireless data and messaging engine that enables enterprise applications to instantly communicate with any data-enabled mobile device through a global carrier network.

The iConverse Mobile Studio Developers Edition(TM) 2.1 is available at no charge through membership in the iConverse Mobile Developer Program. To register for the program or request additional information, please visit http://www.iconverse.com/mobiledeveloper/.
