Viag Interkom First to Offer AirFlash Location-based Services via SMS

September 13, 2001 - AirFlash, Inc., the premier leading
provider of location-based technologies for network
operators and wireless service providers, announced today
the first deployment of it's SmartSMS(tm) location-based SMS
service. VIAG Interkom will offer the premium AirFlash
location-based SMS services in Germany to their Genion and
LOOP mobile subscribers for the same cost as a standard
short message service (SMS) message.
The AirFlash SmartSMS location-based mobile service is the
first deployed SMS offering to use network-derived auto-
location technology. The AirFlash service allows all mobile
users, not just WAP users, to retrieve localized Yellow Page
listings from a single SMS message. Viag Interkom mobile
subscribers can now simply type in one of 16 key business
search words (i.e., bank, hotel, movie, gas station, doctor)
and send it to the phone number 3463 (F-I-N-D). Within
seconds, they will receive an SMS message listing the name,
address and phone number of the nearest desired business. An
added step-saving, "keep your hands on the steering wheel"
feature of the SmartSMS service is that the user can then
"cut and paste" the business phone number and automatically
dial the business.
