URL(s): www.nuance.com
MENLO PARK, Calif., Sept. 17, 2001--Nuance (Nasdaq:NUAN), the leader in Voice Web software, today announced it has
been named one of the 50 fastest growing technology companies over the last five years in Deloitte & Touche LLP's 2001 Silicon Valley Technology Fast
50 program.
Nuance's successes include working with a strong network of solutions partners to deploy numerous large-scale speech systems for the world leading
enterprises and telecommunications carriers. Many major companies in industries such as financial services and travel use Nuance software to automate
customer service applications. In the carrier market, top wireless and wireline providers around the globe provide services, such as voice activated dialing,
voice portal and voice-enabled directory assistance, based on Nuance products. An extended list of Nuance customers is available at www.nuance.com.
Nuance has been a technology leader, constantly raising the bar on recognition accuracy and being the first to deliver integrated speech recognition and
voice authentication products. In addition, Nuance has been a strong advocate of industry standards, and its success can partially be attributed to its early
adoption and promotion of VoiceXML and VoIP to simplify and lower the cost of speech systems. Nuance has also shown market leadership in the design
of effective voice user interfaces, critical to the success of speech systems, and the nurturing of a large developer community that customers can turn to for
skills and application solutions.
"We are pleased to be recognized for the success we have achieved," said Ron Croen, president and CEO, Nuance. "Over the years, Nuance has helped
some of the most influential companies in the world improve customer satisfaction, increase efficiency and enhance their bottom lines, and we remain
committed to ensuring our customers achieve those goals through the use of speech technology."
The Fast 50 Award
To qualify for the Fast 50, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 1996 and $1,000,000 in 2000. They must be public or
private companies headquartered in Silicon Valley and be "technology companies" defined as companies that produce technology, manufacture a technology
product or devote a high percentage of effort to research and development of technology.
