LONDON, Sept. 20, 2001--SRC Telecom, the arm of SRC (The Speech Recognition Company)
providing telephony based speech recognition solutions, and Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT)(TSE:NT.) today announced the first
European deployment of Nortel Networks Media Processing Server platform.
SRC expects to use this platform for its speech applications hosting services, along with associated test, development and
management equipment.
Nortel Networks Media Processing Server (MPS) 1000 provides a state-of-the-art open solution for media processing and
contact centre environments integrating a number of call processing functions with switching capabilities, networking, data
communications and transaction processing and capable of providing full interactive speech response functionality including
speech recognition and text-to-speech.
SRC's carrier-class production hosting platform is expected to be operational in October 2001 and offer capacity to handle
more than 5 million calls per month. The deployment of the Nortel Networks MPS platform will further secure SRC's position as
a pioneer in enabling companies to benefit from the many cost-savings and customer service improvements that speech
recognition applications can deliver, without requiring them to invest in costly deployment of specialist hardware and software.
"We are excited to be the first company in Europe to deploy Nortel Networks MPS platform for our hosting services," said
Chris Hart, managing director, SRC Telecom. "Our decision to select Nortel Networks was based on the company's proven
market leadership in this field. With this announcement, our customers can be confident that their speech applications will be
hosted in a robust carrier-grade environment that is flexible, secure and highly reliable."
SRC's platform allows applications to be developed and hosted in a number of programming languages, including VoiceXML,
which is emerging as the standard for the implementation of telephony based speech recognition and voice browser applications.
The SRC platform will integrate Nortel Networks MPS platform with best-of-breed speech technologies, including engines from
SpeechWorks, Nuance and Philips to support speech recognition and text-to-speech.
"SRC Telecom is a leader in the early adoption of telephony based speech recognition services, which are revolutionising
customer contact and information delivery," said Andy Dennahy, director, Nortel Networks EMEA. "Nortel Networks is
developing new solutions that allow our customers to utilise their Self Service resources to the maximum capacity and MPS 1000
will give enterprises and service providers the opportunity to profit and enhance customer relationships."
