NEW YORK--JDJ Edge Conference, September 24, 2001--SavaJe Technologies is demonstrating the latest release of its SavaJe XE(TM) operating system at the JDJ Edge Conference today through September 28, 2001. SavaJe XE, a new Java operating system for information appliances, is the first to support the full Java(TM) 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE(TM)).

Since its initial release as an open public beta in June, SavaJe has made available two public beta releases of SavaJe XE, which has been tested by end users, developers, enterprises and device manufacturers. SavaJe XE Release 1.0 will be generally available next month - October 2001.

"Our public beta-release was a big success, and we are pleased with the overwhelming response and feedback we have received from our users," said George Grey, CEO of SavaJe Technologies. "We have benefited greatly from the beta testing, and SavaJe XE release 1.0, which will ship in October, provides a complete operating system for information appliances, including smart-phones, advanced PDAs, web tablets, enterprise terminals, set-top boxes, home servers and automobiles. Our users are telling us that not only is this by far the fastest Java platform in the industry, but also that the support for the full Java 2 Standard Edition platform enables rapid application deployment and access to new Java applications for information appliances."

Complete Java 2 Standard Edition features now included in SavaJe XE and being demonstrated today include support for the JavaSound API, external keyboard, wireless networking, and dialup networking support. In addition, the general availability release will ship with a complete set of applications, including a web browser that supports JavaScript and security, a personal information manager (PIM) with Microsoft Outlook 2000/XP support, a picture viewer, an MP3 music player, a POP3/IMAP4 email client with HTML support, a text editor, and a Tetris-style game.

Product Availability

SavaJe XE is currently available as a public beta release for download from the SavaJe website (), and may be installed on the Compaq iPAQ(TM) handheld or the Psion netBook computer. SavaJe XE general release will be available in October 2001.
