SAN DIEGO, Sept. 25, 2001--QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and
world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced that Korea Telecom
Freetel (KTF), a leading Korean CDMA carrier and the first carrier worldwide to introduce data application services based
on QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) applications platform, recently began a
public trial of its magic n multipack(TM) service, which runs on the BREW platform. KTF expects to roll out commercial
BREW-enabled applications and services to subscribers in November of this year, providing end users the ability to download
wireless applications over the air and customize their phones with software that meets their individual needs. KTF's magic n
multipack wireless multimedia service is based on the CDMA2000 1X high-speed data network and available to end users on
color LCD handsets.
KTF launched its public trial of the BREW-enabled magic n multipack service at a ceremony in Seoul, Korea on Sept. 8,
2001. The trial will continue until the end of October. During the trial, 5,000 users will test the magic n multipack service on
BREW-enabled handsets from manufacturers LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics. Participants in the trial were selected
from more than 200,000 consumers who applied online to try out KTF's new services.
The BREW platform will allow KTF subscribers to easily customize their wireless phones with a variety of wireless
applications, including games and entertainment options, as well as messaging and navigation services. Nearly 150 applications
from companies, such as Gaeasoft, Geotel and Anicom, are currently available to trial users free of charge. The user
experience includes three-dimensional graphics, the ability to download applications over the air and streaming video on
handsets with color displays.
"QUALCOMM is very pleased to introduce our BREW platform with Korea Telecom Freetel," said Peggy Johnson,
president of QUALCOMM Internet Services. "KTF is a very progressive service provider that understands the enormous
potential the wireless Internet offers to consumers. This launch with KTF brings valuable market validation to QUALCOMM's
wireless Internet strategies."
QUALCOMM's BREW platform is a thin, standardized applications execution environment that allows rapid development
of a wide variety of applications that users will be able to download over the air from carrier networks onto any
BREW-enabled phone.
