CELPH Launches Suite of Mobile Applications Using Interactive SMS Technology; Features Price Comparison and News Services
SINGAPORE, Sept. 28, 2001--CELPH, a developer and application provider of mobile value-added services, has
launched a suite of powerful, interactive mobile applications that brings the power of the Internet to mobile phone users using the already pervasive and
popular text-message (SMS).
The flagship service CELPH Shop, empowers mobile users, to search for products by either keywords or barcodes, perform independent global
price comparisons against online retailers and second-hand traders, obtain product reviews and in near future, even make purchases from selected local
retailers.
"CELPH Shop is really about contextualizing the Internet. You can be in the local bookstore or record shop and CELPH Shop is always there
beside you to help you make an informed purchase decision on a wide variety of products ranging from books to the latest DVDs or CDs," says Gary
Chan, founder of CELPH. "Other products categories will be added over time by growing our merchant partners to include electronics, toys and much
more."
Other services that are also announced include CELPH Insure, which enables mobile phone users to purchase travel insurance policies just before
they get on the plane, and CELPH Inform, a categorized news service that allows users to rapidly retrieve breaking news headlines and summaries,
entirely by SMS.
CELPH's powerful applications is the result of a 6-month development process that built from scratch the session management, predictive-input
optimizations and transaction aggregation architecture necessary to extend the humble text-message into a powerful interface to the Internet.
CELPH's timely arrival for mobile services is a breath of fresh air for mobile networks today. With sliding average-revenue-per-user (ARPU) and
near saturation points in developed countries, operators have begun to look elsewhere beyond voice traffic to grow and keep their customer and
revenue base.
On the high level of interest CELPH's services have generated even before its launch, Gary comments, "Ultimately it's both the customers' pockets
and hearts that carriers want. Over and above just a quality network, users are demanding that mobile applications today must rise beyond the
bandwidth-crippled WAP sidelines, stock and weather message alerts to focus on utility, context and availability."
"We are committed to developing mobile applications using 'now' technology that have both a high appeal to users and are yet able to monetize well
to all parties in the value chain," adds Gary.
