A Free Public Service in Wake of WTC Attack: Temporary Alternate Phone Listing to Help Reach Disconnected NYC Residents and Businesses Via Foneout.Com
URL(s): Foneout.Com
NEW YORK, Oct. 2, 2001
Foneout.Com: Free Web-based Directory for Wireless
Numbers and Email Addresses
With thousands of lower Manhattan business and residential telephone lines still disabled, Foneout.com
has been launched to provide a centralized website listing of alternate phone numbers and other contact
information.
Foneout.com will provide this free service to assist clients and customers looking for substitute ways to
reach those businesses in downtown Manhattan whose regular telephone lines are disrupted. Foneout.com
will maintain a central database of contact information and, following a "do-it-yourself" model, encourages
affected companies and individuals to submit and maintain their own temporary listings of cell phone numbers
and email addresses.
Foneout.com takes input via a simple web-based form. Listings are searchable by company name or
contact name. Foneout.com is reachable on the web at http://foneout.com. Foneout.com is also accessible by
PDA, RIM and WAP-enabled wireless devices.
Listings will remain up until telephone service is completely restored in lower Manhattan. The site, which
was developed independently, is seen as a useful augmentation to Verizon's temporary listings 411, a new
voice-based information service announced last Thursday. See:
