Socket Launches Bluetooth Connection Kit

URL(s): www.socketcom.com

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 3, 2001--Socket Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:SCKT, PSE:SOK), the leading provider of connection products for handheld computers and other devices, today announced the U.S. availability of its Bluetooth Connection Kit. Wireless data customers can now check email, browse the web or access their company networks on a Pocket PC while their mobile phone remains in a purse, pocket or briefcase.

The Bluetooth Connection Kit contains Socket's Bluetooth CompactFlash (CF) Card, software drivers, and Get Connected! Wizard -- everything customers need to make a cable-less connection between a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone and a Pocket PC.

Director of Product Marketing, Peter Phillips, comments, "Anticipation for Bluetooth has been incredibly high. Socket has responded with a product designed to give consumers a rich, easy-to-use experience connecting their Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone to a Pocket PC. As other Bluetooth devices enter into the market, Socket's Bluetooth Connection Kit will help consumers experience the power of Bluetooth."

Socket's Bluetooth CompactFlash Card was designed to be compatible with Microsoft Windows CE Powered devices and is one of the most energy efficient CF cards on the market today. The card has a unique design, with a fully integrated antenna, offering two major benefits -- it won't change the size or look of your Pocket PC, and it reduces the risk of damage to the card or Pocket PC when in use.

"Hewlett-Packard Company has been working with Socket to ensure compatibility of Socket's products with the latest HP Jornada PDAs," said Kok-Khoon Lim, general manager, HP's Jornada organization. "We are excited about Socket's Bluetooth Connection Kit because it has been tailored to make it easy to add Bluetooth functionality to a Pocket PC -- giving customers a new way to access the information they need."

The Bluetooth Connection Kit is available in the U.S. immediately through Socket's web site, as well as through normal distribution channels for a suggested retail price of $179. Visit www.socketcom.com for product and purchase details.
