SAN MATEO, Calif. - Oct, 4, 2001 - ActiveSky*, a Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 launch partner, is releasing a new wireless media player that allows users to interact with media-centric content on their new Windows powered Pocket PC 2002 devices.

ActiveSky's platform provides "click-able" multimedia objects that can be made of combinations of text, graphics, animation, audio and video. The cross-platform technology maximizes bandwidth by compensating for slow and inconsistent connections on wireless networks.

"In addition to providing onboard support for multimedia and eBooks as well as personal and business data, Pocket PC 2002 meets the individual requirements of a range of customers through add-on hardware and software," said Andy Haon, director of product planning, Microsoft. "With ActiveSky's technology, the user can enjoy rich visual images and a greater level of interactivity with wireless content."

The company's client/server platform delivers interactive content seamlessly and is being used to develop data-driven, personalized third-party wireless applications such as infotainment channels.

"The robust architecture of the Pocket PC 2002 allows us to show off what ActiveSky's technology can really do," Scott Marquardt, president and CEO, ActiveSky, said. "Users will discover that being able to interact with their wireless content for business presentations, instant sports data or for other corporate and leisure applications will make wireless devices more fun and useful."

ActiveSky's support for the Pocket PC dates back to the original April 2000 launch where Microsoft showcased ActiveSky's technology with an animated short of Steve Ballmer explaining the uses for the Pocket PC.
