TORRANCE, Calif, Oct. 4, 2001--Pharos Science and Applications, Inc., a leader in the GPS
navigation and routing market, will release an upgraded version of its popular Pocket GPS Navigator solution to run on
Microsoft's enhanced Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 Software.
Pharos, which has gained a superb reputation among Pocket PC users for setting the standard for PDA-based navigation,
mapping, and voice-prompted directional assistance, is confident that the updated platform will fuel even stronger growth in
the hot Pocket PC PDA market.
"Our commitment is to give consumers the ability to find their way no matter where they are located," said Jeff Curtis,
executive vice president of Pharos. "Microsoft's new Pocket PC 2002 has enabled Pharos to add richer features and
allowed us to raise the bar in the GPS market once again."
Pocket GPS Navigator is a complete navigation solution that requires no other components other than the PDA platform.
The turnkey package includes: a GPS receiver with integrated antenna; a charger cable that powers the GPS receiver and
PDA simultaneously; complete navigation and routing software; and maps for the entire United States.
Pharos' upgraded software expands the core navigation system with:
Automatic or manual re-route
Reverse route
Text prompt for next turn
Show map scale
On-map scrolling
Ability to display up to 10 maps simultaneously
"I've been very impressed with the breadth of features offered by Pharos," said Ron Rosberg, a San Francisco-based
radio technology commentator on both KGO and KSFO AM. He is also senior editor of Early Adopters and a Pocket PC
Navigator user.
"The upgrades and the ease of use enhance the benefits to the end user, making it a perfect solution for the frequent
traveler looking for directions or information on various cities," Rosberg continued.
"One of Microsoft's goals with Pocket PC 2002 is to provide users with a device that offers the most for work and play,"
said Doug Dedo, lead product manager for the Mobility Division at Microsoft Corporation. "Pharos has joined us on the
path toward realizing this goal with its Pocket GPS Navigator that will benefit users by helping them find the places they need
to go in the United States."
The updated Pocket GPS Navigator will be available this fall.
