SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 4, 2001 - Today at the launch of Pocket PC 2002, Voice Signal Technologies, Inc., the leading developer of embedded speech
technology for mobile devices, demonstrated their large-vocabulary, speech recognition solution for dictation running on the next-generation Microsoft Windows-Powered Pocket PC
2002 platform. Voice Signal's breakthrough solution, code-named E.L.V.I.S. (for Embedded Large Vocabulary Interface System), is the latest and most advanced in Voice Signal's line
of embedded speech recognizers and enables mobile device users to dictate and send email or SMS messages using voice.
"Pocket PC 2002 has a great advantage in the marketplace because it is designed to be the most connected and expandable PDA available," said Derek Brown, Product Manager for
the Mobility Division at Microsoft Corp. "We are excited to see innovative developers like Voice Signal take advantage of our new Pocket PC 2002 platform by providing speech
technology that will allow users to enter text into Pocket PC 2002 applications by using speech dictation."
The E.L.V.I.S. platform is a modular, scalable solution that enables voice capabilities ranging from system navigation to state-of-the-art dictation for messaging. It has a vocabulary of
tens of thousands of words (customizable by the user), and adapts to the voice of the individual speaker.
"Voice Signal is pleased to be the first speech technology developer to demonstrate large vocabulary dictation on Microsoft's next generation Pocket PC 2002," said Mark Furnari,
Voice Signal's Vice President of Business Development. "By enabling users to create messages, memos, and control applications using speech, Voice Signal makes these
applications easier and more convenient to use on mobile devices."
Benefits of the E.L.V.I.S. Platform
-- Converts speech to text in real time, providing users immediate visual
feedback, making creating and editing text fast and easy for the user.
-- Provides a fast, convenient input method for many popular applications,
including SMS messaging, email, address book, calendars, memos, and
more.
-- Adapts to the user's voice, accent, and speaking style, enabling
extremely accurate recognition.
-- Filters out background noise, enabling high accuracy in noisy
environments, including cars.
Availability
The E.L.V.I.S. platform is expected to be available in Q4 2001. Companies interested in integrating Voice Signal's embedded speech recognition can contact Chris Reiner at
