HANDERA PLANS SUPPORT FOR SYMBOL WI-FI WIRELESS COMPACTFLASH ADAPTER
DES MOINES, Iowa - October 10, 2001 HandEra, Inc. (www.handera.com), a leading provider of handheld computing devices for business professionals, today announced plans to support the Symbol Wireless Networker, an 802.11b (Wi-Fi) CompactFlash wireless LAN adapter. The HandEra 330, which features integrated support for CompactFlash peripherals, will accommodate the Symbol product for wireless connectivity with enterprise networks, email systems and other applications.
Based on Symbol's Spectrum24�® High Rate Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) wireless LAN technology, the Wireless Networker complies with the IEEE 802.11b standard. The new adapter features dynamic rate scaling from 11Mbps, to 5.5Mbps, 2Mbps and 1Mbps, for optimum wireless connectivity during higher traffic sessions. The product is the first CompactFlash wireless LAN adapter to be Wi-Fi certified. The Wireless Networker is a CompactFlash Type I card format and is compatible with the HandEra 330's CompactFlash expansion slot.

The Wireless Networker will enable handheld users to perform large file transfers, wirelessly access the Internet and email, and run other high-speed network applications. HandEra 330 users will have the option of a Wi-Fi solution that includes the benefit of Symbol's advanced features for mobile security, including 40-bit and 128-bit data encryption.

The Symbol Wireless Networker adapter is currently available through online E-tailers. HandEra developed the 802.11b CompactFlash software drivers for the HandEra 330, which are currently in beta testing with availability planned for mid-November 2001. A complete software solution, including device-specific drivers for the Palm operating system and configuration tools, will be available for HandEra 330 users at www.handera.com .
