IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 12, 2001--Microsemi Corp. (Nasdaq:MSCC), today announced that its patented RangeMAX architecture is the solution that is driving the lamps that light the bright color displays on Hewlett Packard's Jornada 560 and Toshiba's Pocket PC PDAs.

Microsemi's LX1686 and LX1689 chips provide the HP Jornada 560 and the Toshiba e570 with an efficient means of driving the lamps for up to 50% longer playtime than conventional lamp driver technology.

The RangeMAX platform technology is also used on Compaq's iPAQ Pocket PC, AirSpeak's Flair wireless Web tablet, and Symbol's portable pen terminals to name a few.

"We are quite pleased with the rapid acceptance of the PocketPC platform and how it translates to direct wins for Microsemi's product technology," commented Jim Peterson, president and CEO of Microsemi.

"Microsoft announced last week that over 220 new products will feature the Pocket PC 2000 operating system and all will use the Intel StrongArm processor. Microsemi's RangeMAX backlight lamp driver technology is called out on Intel's Strong Arm Processor reference design kit."
