ActiveBatch Wireless Client Extends Remote Capabilities for the ActiveBatch Job Scheduling and Management System

HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY -- October 12th, 2001 -- Advanced Systems Concepts, a leading developer of System Management and Production Software System solutions, today announced the ActiveBatch Wireless Client™ interface, for its popular Cross Platform Job Scheduling and Management system, ActiveBatch®. ActiveBatch Wireless Client improves remote server and application management support using the Blackberry Wireless Handheld device developed by Research In Motion Limited (RIM).

“System Administrators and Operations personnel are under continuous pressure due to the increasing service demands and uptime requirements for today’s networks and applications," said Jim Manias, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Advanced Systems Concepts. “As problems occur, any time of the day or night, administrators or developers are required to respond quickly. By integrating ActiveBatch's powerful job scheduling and management capabilities with a Blackberry Wireless Handheld, critical situations become "directly actionable" by Operations Staff Members or System Administrators regardless of their location. No longer is it necessary to be “paged” and then have to call someone else to determine and solve a problem, at arm’s length. With ActiveBatch Wireless Client, remote management is simplified and responsibility for direct action is placed in the appropriate hands of identified individuals.”

At the heart of the ActiveBatch Wireless Client is the Blackberry Wireless Handheld -- an "Always On, Always Connected™" wireless device. “We wanted a light, simple to use wireless device with two-way E-mail capability, 24-hour connectivity and a long battery life. The Blackberry handheld fits the job perfectly.”

ActiveBatch's powerful Alert system sends an E-mail message to designated personnel describing the precise nature of the alert. An ActiveBatch resident application, on the Blackberry, receives and presents the alert message in an easy to understand manner so an individual can take appropriate action by directly replying to the alert. For example, a System Administrator might elect to resubmit a failed job or restart a system service or perform other necessary operations to manage situations as identified in the alert regardless of whether they are at home, on the road or simply away from their desk. A unique aspect of the ActiveBatch Wireless Client is that all security information is encrypted and fully authenticated. The Blackberry packaging ensures that all data is securely transmitted. A "return-receipt" provides end-to-end acknowledgement that the operation has been received and processed by ActiveBatch. The ActiveBatch Wireless Client is capable of initiating action messages as well as responding to alerts.

ActiveBatch is an Enterprise Cross-Platform Job Scheduling and Management System designed for Windows 2000/NT that using its Calendar, Event and On-Demand Scheduling capabilities automates processes and jobs throughout an organization. ActiveBatch's use of highly advanced technologies to support Workload Balancing, Checkpoint/Restart, Job Stream Distribution as well as transparent cross platform dependencies sets ActiveBatch apart in the areas of scalability, reliability, and manageability.
