IntelliWhere and Terramapserver Join Forces to Fast-Track Advanced LBS Applications

HOOFDDORP, Netherlands, Oct. 12, 2001 - A strategic partnership agreement signed today between IntelliWhere(tm), a division of Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions, and Terra Map Server GmbH (Dortmund, Germany) is set to dramatically increase the deployment of advanced location-based services (LBS) by European businesses. The agreement, signed at the recent German INTERGEO fair, will allow businesses such as portal operators, mobile network operators, and short message service (SMS) service providers to quickly build and deploy sophisticated, high-performance location-based services without incurring the capital cost and investment risk of an in-house implementation.

The service provided by the partnership includes the delivery of a range of high-volume LBS transactions - locate address, display map, find closest or nearest, identify routing and meeting points, and so forth. IntelliWhere's LocationServer software and the terramapserver geodata Web portal, www.terramapserver.com, provide the foundation for this new service.

Expanding beyond the conventional B2C market, the partnership also targets the significant B2B2C arena. By embedding access to the terramapserver, businesses and software vendors can now "location-enable" content from within their own solutions and systems easily and inexpensively. For example, a fast-food restaurant chain using terramapserver could provide customers the location and directions to its nearest restaurant through the Internet, mobile phones, and SMS portals. Using an embedded window, real estate agents could connect to mobile-based real estate information systems with terramapserver to show maps and full color aerial imagery, giving prospective purchasers virtual tours of available real estate or nearby points of interest.

"The elegance of the IntelliWhere LocationServer platform enables us to deliver our services through our client's business systems - to any system, on any operating platform, anywhere, and anytime," says Franz-Josef Grosse-Enking from terramapserver management. "IntelliWhere LocationServer stands out amongst other solutions in offering such broad support for any mobile device."

LocationServer provides advanced georeferencing, shortest path routing, points of interest searches, and other key functions. Terramapserver provides a powerful hardware infrastructure and more than 10 terabytes of European geodata. Combining these with the NAVTECH(r) navigation database, basic geographic data of state and regional authorities, and the ANDES raster map database, terramapserver can deliver a comprehensive service to a wide range of European countries.

Dr. Lee Finniear, managing director of IntelliWhere, comments, "This partnership is strategic for IntelliWhere as it extends our reach beyond software platform delivery into the provision of sophisticated location-based services through an application service provider model. This is a vital alternative that allows us to deliver the advanced capabilities of IntelliWhere LocationServer to organizations that wish to avoid the significant capital investment associated with setting up their own LBS infrastructure. Terramapserver has a successful track record proving its capability to operate such a high-availability service."

The availability of the joint IntelliWhere and terramapserver services is expected in fourth quarter 2001.

IntelliWhere

IntelliWhere is a division of Intergraph Corporation's Mapping and GIS Solutions vertical business, created explicitly to focus on the emerging market of location-based technology and services. Terramapserver Terra Map Server GmbH was established in December 1999 with the business mission to build, develop and ensure operational efficiency of the terramapserver Internet platform along with the development of new geo-related products and services. The Dortmund-based company has developed terramapserver in approximately one year in collaboration with Microsoft(r), Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions, PLEdoc, and adisoft. Terramapserver provides complete documentation of high-resolution satellite generated aerial pictures and maps combined with comprehensive demographic and economic information. This Internet portal was made possible by the innovative technology of Intergraph's GeoMedia(r) WebMap and Microsoft BackOffice(tm) and Web Services.
