Mentor Graphics Extends Infowave Wireless Deployment To Europe
URL(s): www.infowave.com
BELLEVUE, Wash., Oct. 15, 2001--
Software Leader Expands on Successful North American Deployment, Offers Wireless Data Access on Multiple Devices to
European Sales, Consulting Staff
Infowave Software (TSE: IW), a global provider of software that connects enterprise applications to wireless devices, today
announced that Mentor Graphics has purchased additional seats of the Infowave Wireless Business Engine and will be deploying it in
its European operations.
Mentor Graphics consultants, sales people, and software designers will be using Infowave's Wireless Business Engine on
WAP-enabled GSM handsets and laptops with low-speed dial-up connections to the company's remote access provider.
Employees will be able to access e-mail and personal information management (PIM) data using the Infowave Exchange Connector
and intranet Web applications via the Infowave Web Connector.
"We are very excited about introducing real-time, wireless data capabilities from Infowave to our European employees. In tough
economic times it is more important than ever to give high-value mobile workers constant connectivity to the enterprise," said Martin
Cooper of Mentor's Ireland office. "Our North American employees have been very impressed with Infowave's ability to offer fast,
real-time data transfer, a great user experience, and support of multiple devices and networks interchangeably. Our original choice of
Infowave as Mentor's platform for wireless data access has proven to be beneficial as we take the next step in rolling this out."
Expanding a Successful Deployment
With a global customer base and several worldwide offices, mentor Graphics executives, salespeople and consultants are
frequently away from their office. Mentor's mobile workers realized that they were limited in their ability to read email attachments
from their RIM pagers, access other applications beyond email or view information on their corporate Intranet via traditional cellular
and pager devices. They also wanted to be able to use Web phones, Palm and Pocket PC devices.
"Our decision to implement Infowave's Wireless Business Engine has made a positive impact on our company. Our employees are
more productive, better able to collaborate and can be more responsive to both internal and external customers," said Tom Herzog,
Mentor Graphics communications tools manager who was involved in Mentor Graphics' original North American implementation of
Infowave.
Mentor Graphics' migration from simple messaging devices to a more robust wireless platform solution from Infowave is a sign of
things to come.
According to leading IT industry analyst firm Gartner Inc., "Most enterprises dip their toe in the WAG (Wireless Application
Gateway) lake by deploying wireless email first. After they have had a swim, the corporate email need expands to other applications,
applications that are often proprietary or legacy in nature. Enterprises get hooked on wireless email, and then look beyond the in-box
for what applications need to be made mobile. It is for this reason enterprises should ask potential WAG vendors what else can you
do for me other than make my email mobile? Enterprises should not be so short sighted and stop with wireless email. Once users get
the taste of wireless freedom and convenience, putting connection frustration aside, they will want more---as will the corporation as
productivity and income gains are seen. Enterprises should select products based on specific features required for initial
implementations, but focus attention on architecture and design issues to draw longer term lessons from the experience," wrote
Gartner senior wireless analyst Kimberly Hiller in a Sept. 28 2001 Gartner report entitled Wireless Email: A Perspective.
