MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 15, 2001--
AT&T Digital PocketNet(R) Service Premium Plan Customers Gain Access to World's Largest Search Engine
In an ongoing effort to broaden its availability to users of wireless devices, Google Inc. today announced an agreement with
AT&T Wireless to provide subscribers with Internet-ready mobile phones direct access to Google's award-winning search engine.
Under the agreement, AT&T Wireless customers now can access more than 1.6 billion Internet web pages and five million
WAP-ready pages on their mobile phones.
Available now, customers who subscribe to AT&T Digital PocketNet(R) Service Premium Plan can quickly access the Google
search engine under the "Other Sites" menu screen. Google's advanced software automatically converts HTML web pages on the fly
and optimizes content for WAP devices.
"AT&T Wireless users now have access to the world's information from the palm of their hands," said Larry Page, co-founder and
president of Products at Google. "Our intelligent, easy-to-use search technology quickly returns the information users are looking
for."
"By providing easy access to even more Internet sites, the Google search engine broadens our ability to meet the evolving needs of
our customers," said Andy Willett, vice president of business and content development for AT&T Wireless.
The alliance with AT&T Wireless marks the latest in a string of successful Google ventures with wireless providers, including
market leaders such as Sprint PCS, Cingular, Handspring, Palm, Vodafone, Yahoo! Everywhere and Malaysia-based E-Chilipadi.
In addition, Google has developed wireless search technologies for use on Japanese i-mode, J-Sky, and EZWeb mobile phones.
