Wireless Applications Launches First Web-Based Wireless Site Design and Coverage Projection Feature

URL(s): http://www.wirelessapplications.com

BELLEVUE, WA - October 17, 2001 - Wireless Applications Corporation officially launched its new web-based RF site design and site coverage projection feature on PowerSearch - its tower-searching tool. Now both non-engineers and engineers can project wireless coverage for any site on any PC with web access and a compatible browser. To access PowerSearch, go to Wireless Applications' web site at www.wirelessapplications.com.

As the first product to offer accurate RF site design capabilities through the web, PowerSearch can be a valuable tool for site acquisition staff, financial planners, business analysts, construction managers, wireless consultants, project managers, microwave departments and RF engineers. PowerSearch users can design sites and view coverage projections without having to load large software or terrain data files on each computer or wait days to receive their results. PowerSearch's search results, site designs and terrain profiles are immediately displayed in an easy-to-use visual mapping interface and in tabular format for easy analysis. "The ability for anyone to generate accurate and immediate site coverage projections should provide significant benefits for any wireless company," said Eric Wills, president/CEO of Wireless Applications.

PowerSearch's RF site design feature, which successfully completed beta testing in September, uses the RF design engine behind Wireless Applications' proprietary RF design tool - RFPlan. This programming structure enables PowerSearch to accurately project coverage contours for any site right through the Internet. "PowerSearch is a great resource for any company that needs quick and accurate site designs," said Bruce Rotvold, director of engineering for Monet Mobile Wireless. "Especially for companies trying to meet upcoming 5-year deadlines."

PowerSearch can display coverage in accurate four-color multi-point coverage strength contours. Users can select signal strength thresholds and contour colors to customize coverage projections to meet their needs. Even non-engineers can project general site coverage to assist with strategic planning and/or advanced business analysis. "I found PowerSearch's coverage projections comparable to those created with desktop software design tools," said Wen-Bin Yang, PhD, a senior wireless consultant and published expert on CDMA technology.

PowerSearch's full RF design feature factors in terrain data, antenna type, antenna height, sector, parameter, general power, fade margin, morphology, azimuth, frequency (100MHz to 2.4GHz) and down-tilt specifications to provide coverage projections equivalent to software-based desktop design tools. Plus, soon PowerSearch will also offer the ability to view coverage projections in radial and downlink formats.

Another new feature offered by PowerSearch is a custom layer option. This feature allows users to map and combine additional outside data files, including existing network coverage, with results generated by PowerSearch. PowerSearch protects proprietary data by offering secure and select access to custom layer data. This custom layer feature offers flexible, efficient and secure access to company data plus provides advanced data analysis capabilities.

Currently, PowerSearch is the most advanced wireless tower-searching tool available. In addition to projecting site coverage, users can search multiple data sources including FCC, FAA and top tower company databases plus they can generate terrain profile projections - all with one tool. Individual users can select the features and the length of time they like to provide optimum cost-efficiency. For organizations with multiple users, corporate accounts are available. "PowerSearch is the ideal search tool. Not only can you search for a site, but now you can also view the coverage you could achieve at that location, as well as see if that site can be networked into an existing system. It's quick, accurate and easy-to-use," Wills said.
