SpeechTEK, New York, NY, October 24, 2001 – BeVocal, the voice platforms and applications company that extends the power of every phone, announced today its full support of the Working Draft VoiceXML 2.0 specification. The World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) release of the first public Working Draft of VoiceXML 2.0 paves the way for expanded Web access via the telephone. VoiceXML 2.0 is designed to create audio dialogs that feature synthesized speech, digitized audio, recognition of spoken and DTMF (touch-tone) key input, recording of spoken input, telephony and mixed-initiative conversations. Its major goal is to bring the advantages of Web-based development and content delivery to interactive voice response applications.

"As a member of the W3C's Voice Browser Working Group, BeVocal is excited about the new 2.0 specification," said Mikael Berner, BeVocal CTO and EVP of Products. "BeVocal, a leader in VoiceXML, has been providing advance 2.0 functionality to developers since early this year. We will continue to work closely with the W3C in pioneering new VoiceXML functionality, and in bringing those capabilities to our developers as quickly as possible."

BeVocal's Foundation Platform

BeVocal Foundation is an in-network voice platform that enables carriers to create and deliver next- generation enhanced services such as voice activated dialing, voice portal, and voice messaging applications. This VoiceXML 2.0 platform is designed to be easy to deploy, manage, and maintain, resulting in a faster time to market and a lower total cost of ownership for carriers. BeVocal Foundation simplifies and accelerates the deployment of new voice-enabled services that generate revenue, reduce costs, and attract and retain customers. In addition, BeVocal's advanced tools and worldwide speech developer community enable carriers to customize and differentiate their service offerings with a broad range of high-quality voice applications that provide a seamless user experience for callers.

BeVocal's Developer Program

Powered by the Foundation Platform, the BeVocal Café (http://cafe.bevocal.com/) is a free Web-based VoiceXML development environment that provides developers with a complete set of tools and resources for creating high quality speech applications. Using the BeVocal Café, developers can build advanced, scaleable speech applications using a standard Web browser and an ordinary telephone. In addition to the industry's top-ranked VoiceXML interpreter, the BeVocal Café is the only VoiceXML 2.0 development environment providing all of the following unique features: support for voiceprint verification; support for local and remotely loaded Java- based objects; pre-tuned grammars, professional audio, and utility functions for location-based services; and sophisticated tools for usability testing and debugging of applications. In addition, BeVocal provides extensive documentation and training for beginners and advanced VoiceXML developers.

BeVocal's developer program links into BeVocal's wireless and wireline carrier partners via BeVocal's Carrier Partnership Program, the first and only program to provide voice application developers with a direct sales channel to major telecommunications carriers such as Qwest Wireless and BellSouth. Developers who use the BeVocal Café have the opportunity to showcase their voice applications to BeVocal's carrier partners, who can then make the applications available to their customers. BeVocal's Carrier Partnership Program was created to help developers quickly and economically deploy voice applications to accommodate growing carrier demand for consumer and enterprise voice services.

BeVocal Presence at SpeechTEK

In addition to exhibiting, BeVocal will offer a VoiceXML 2.0 workshop at SpeechTEK on Thursday, October 25 from 2-5pm. This workshop will cover VoiceXML concepts and architecture, designing intuitive voice applications, testing and debugging VoiceXML applications, and future trends in VoiceXML. BeVocal is also speaking on the following tracks: "A Voice Portal Discussion" on October 25 from 1-2pm and "Where is VoiceXML Going?" on October 26 from 2:45 pm-4 pm.
