Xerox and Captaris Collaborate to Improve Service, Functionality for Wireless Users

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 24, 2001--Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX) has named Captaris, Inc. (NASDAQ:CAPA) as the preferred fax-delivery service provider for mDoc 2.1, Xerox's enterprise server software.

The agreement improves mDoc 2.1 users' communication abilities by enabling them to distribute documents remotely through Captaris MediaLinq's fax broadcast and reply services.

mDoc 2.1 allows users to connect to their network servers via Internet-enabled wireless devices in order to fax or e-mail documents remotely and to forward e-mail attachments to fax machines for printing. The software is compatible with all popular personal digital assistants (PDAs), browser clients, e-mail clients and two-way pagers.

"Mobile professionals demand services that are flexible, fast and, above all, convenient to use," said Billy Cates, general manager, Xerox Mobile Solutions. "Our research shows that MediaLinq offers the highest rated services for fax transmission, making the company the logical choice for bringing mDoc customers greater options in hosted fax support."

Xerox's agreement with MediaLinq provides IT professionals with immediate access to fax services by enabling quick and easy registration and account set-up for mDoc 2.1 users. Mobile workers can then use their PDAs and MediaLinq service to send documents such as updated proposals, pricing sheets or other literature to a client's fax machine or e-mail address. This eliminates the need to carry numerous hardcopy files or a laptop.

"By leveraging MediaLinq's IP network infrastructure and core competencies, Xerox will provide its mDoc 2.1 customers with more options for document access and delivery," said David Sohm, president of Captaris MediaLinq Services. "As a Xerox preferred provider, MediaLinq will build upon the successful relationship Captaris has established with Xerox over the past few years."

In addition to MediaLinq, mDoc 2.1 can deliver faxes through other LAN providers and via ASP fax providers.

This new offering is another example of Xerox's strategy to provide IT professionals with document management tools to better support their mobile workforces. Earlier this week, Xerox announced its support of Electronics For Imaging's PrintMe Networks, a new Internet printing solution that lets mobile workers send documents through mobile devices directly to their office printers, without print drivers, cables or complex setups.

mDoc2.1 is available through Xerox's sales force, partners or online at www.xerox.com.

Xerox Mobile Solutions is part of Xerox's Internet Business Group, which develops and markets software products based on network, mobile and knowledge management technologies.

Captaris (formerly AVT Corporation) is a leading provider of unified communications and mobile business solutions that allow companies to improve business communications with customers, partners and employees.
