ThinAirApps Introduces The Wireless Groupware Market's Most Secure Solution for Palm PoweredTM Devices
URL(s): www.certicom.com
NEW YORK, Oct. 30, 2001--
-- Latest Release of ThinAir Server with Groupware Access
incorporates Certicom's leading end-to-end data encryption and
enables the use of SecurID, RADIUS, or LDAP ThinAir Server
Enterprise Authentication Engines for user authentication --
ThinAirApps, Inc., a leader in wireless infrastructure software, today announced the industry's first Palm OS(R) based wireless
groupware Smart Client to include end-to-end encryption utilizing elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) from Certicom. The latest release of
ThinAir Server with Groupware Access, now available, also supports the ability to employ ThinAir Server Enterprise Authentication
Engines to leverage RSA SecurID, RADIUS, or LDAP authentication systems in conjunction with ThinAirApps' industry-leading
behind-the-firewall wireless handheld groupware access solution.
The utilization of Certicom's elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) technology ensures that all data exchanged wirelessly is encrypted
throughout the entire transmission of data between client and server (i.e., "end-to-end encrypted"), thereby preventing even brief exposure
of data during the transition from the wireless gateway to the Internet. ECC is optimized for resource efficiency, making it ideal for small
devices, and provides higher levels of security at smaller key sizes than any other known public-key cryptographic system.
"ThinAirApps is proud to announce the first Palm OS based Smart Client to include end-to-end encryption, " said Andrew Breen of
ThinAirApps. "With the inclusion of this technology, our solution places the control over data security comfortably in the hands of the
enterprise. We are also very pleased to be able to offer enterprises the ability to utilize their existing authentication infrastructure as a single
point of access authorization to corporate data. This capability not only means reduced administrator burden, but also the ability to leverage
two-factor authentication for additional enterprise security."
"ThinAirApps' solution brings a new level of security to Palm and to Palm's enterprise customers," said Dan Glessner, director, Enterprise
Marketing, at Palm, Inc. "We're avid users of ThinAir Server with Groupware Access internally, and can now do so with even greater
confidence. In addition, our customers continue to assert that intellectual property is the cornerstone of any business, and this solution
provides for excellent measures to protect the sensitive information transmitted wirelessly on Palm(TM) handhelds. This new release offers
greater value to enterprise customers, and strengthens the position of both Palm and ThinAirApps in the marketplace."
"ThinAirApps gives enterprises the mobility they're craving and Certicom's leading elliptic curve cryptography ensures that sensitive
information stays as such," said James Wright, Director, Applications of Certicom. "Together, we are offering a powerful extension of the
office for large businesses that gives their employees access to all the critical data they need from wherever they need to be, as well as the
most sophisticated security to ensure it doesn't wind up in the wrong hands."
ThinAir Server with Groupware Access provides full-featured secure wireless access to Microsoft Exchange, Lotus(R) Domino, Novell
GroupWise(R), and any IMAP or POP mail server. Groupware Access allows enterprises to leverage the power of their groupware
system from wherever their work requires, enabling secure, wireless interaction with mail, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes, as well as
both public and private folder systems from a wide array of supported wireless handheld devices, including Palm Powered, PocketPC,
RIM Wireless Handhelds(TM), and WAP-enabled phones.
