Infowave Announces Compaq Purchase of Global Site License

BELLEVUE, Wash., Oct. 30, 2001--Infowave Software (TSE:IW.) today announced Compaq Computer Corporation has purchased a global site license of the Infowave Wireless Business Engine and its suite of application connectors.

The Infowave Wireless Business Engine will be used worldwide to connect Compaq's global workforce to the information they need, including email, the Internet and other Web-enabled applications.

"Offering real time wireless computing capabilities to employees is a critical step toward supplying anytime and anywhere access to data," said Jerry Meerkatz, vice president and general manager, Compaq Enterprise Mobility Solutions. "The way people work is changing, and they need the tools to do their job when they're out of the office. Mobile devices from Compaq and Infowave software with its secure, real-time access to information from those devices is the future-and it's here now."

Building on a successful deployment

Compaq, a Fortune 50 company, designs, develops, manufactures and markets hardware, software, solutions and services that are sold in more than 200 countries. They needed a wireless platform that would allow them to support many different mobile device profiles, carrier network standards and enterprise applications in Compaq's complex network environment. Compaq began using Infowave in 2000 with a small deployment before deciding to roll out worldwide. The Infowave Wireless Business Engine will be used worldwide throughout Compaq's sales and services organization as well as by the company's mobile workforce.

"Infowave and Compaq have a history of working together across sales, marketing, development and professional services. The statement they're making by rolling out Infowave worldwide is a great endorsement not only for Infowave, but for the need for connectivity software as part of a strategic wireless data initiative," said Thomas Koll, Infowave CEO. "Our unique value proposition of offering both middleware and application connectors, while supporting many device profiles, many kinds of data access, and many carrier networks securely and reliably, will be highlighted in this global deployment."
