NYC Marathon Web Site Races Forward With Aestiva Technology

TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 2, 2001--Aestiva, the official sponsor of the New York City Marathon Web site, announced today that this year's site will include new services and features making it more sophisticated than ever.

Last year the New York City Marathon Web site delighted users with the world's first Real-Time Tracker, a feature developed by Aestiva that allowed users to follow the progress of friends running in the Marathon. The Real-Time Tracker alerts fans when their friends pass different checkpoints in the race. Last year the feature attracted fifty thousand users. The cutting-edge service was built with Aestiva HTML/OS technology.

"New York doesn't settle for second best," says D.M. Silverberg, a former New Yorker, President of Aestiva and author of Advanced Web Sites Made Easy.

This year the Real-time Tracker is expected to attract one-hundred thousand users. Aestiva will also add an email alert service, a wireless alert service and a new on-line store to the Web site. Behind the scenes, the site includes new Web-based services for helping in the huge task of putting on the world-renowned race.

"Our Web databases, Web programming, Real-Time Tracker, alert services, Web-scaling and back-office Web-based operations are built using Aestiva HTML/OS software," said Alice Schneider, head of New York Road Runner Club's computer operations.
